Slow sync to google sheets

I have a large database for my books. I recently noticed that it didn't sync to its google sheets equivalent since May 2018.

When I try to sync, I see a popup "Synchronization with Google Sheets... Processing a list rows N of 4741".

Each row takes about 5 seconds. It will take a really long time to sync! (Well, 6 hours...) I seem to remember it would count by 100s, not each row on its own. Why is the process so slow now? Is something wrong with the database of the sheets?

It seems for me syncing with google sheets does not work any more.

It is a books database with 2600 entries. It seems it hasn't synced with google for some time.

When I try to sync, progress is very slow, as stated above. When I try to let the process finish, it eventually fails with an error message about authorization, after about 500 lines synced.

Is there any way to sync to google sheets? What broke? Could I download the sheet and sync locally?
