Honestly, I had never heard of MacroDroid, so I read an independent article, watched a n independent YouTube video, and then visited the MacroDroid Google Play store page and ArloSoft's web site before writing this.
The category it fits in is as a competitor to Tasker, not so much to Zapier or IFTTT. Still, an Android automater like MacroDroid does different things from what an app automater like Zapier does, and if you're more concerned about switching Android lights, mics, & apps on & off than you are about triggering apps to run & pass data from one to another in the sequence you want, it might be just the ticket for you.
Zapier's main competitor is IFTTT, so check them out, too. I don't mention it right away, because I haven't heard that Memento tests with IFTTT when it releases new versions. On and tool like these, check out the templates. Very important to do! I don't know why Memento fell off Zapier's list of interfaced apps, but it recently did, though I think it's back in the list now.
MacroDroid is certainly going to be easier to use than Tasker; it looks nice at 1st glance; and it's been around a while & has a 4.4 (good) rating in the Play store & also in Gartner. Read the 2-4-star reviews in the Play store & see what you think.
I gather that MacroDroid tests with Memento when a new released comes out; I'd double-check this if you really care about that, though. It's certainly true that Memento tests with Zapier when a new released comes out.
In general, I'd direct folks first to Zapier. It should feel friendlier to what you might want to do -- fewer & more app-y & data transfer-y options, I think. I think folks will more often want to interface with a spreadsheet app or another database app than they will want to turn on the flashlight, though I can imagine someone wanting to trigger a song or video to play due to a condition in Memento, which MacroDroid should be able to do, but Zapier can do that kind of thing also, and it should have fewer foreign-sounding options along the way.
Also, check the templates in each; see if they're more typical of things you might want to do.
