Hello everyone,

I'm trying to use Memento Database on my desktop because working on a larger screen with a keyboard is much more convenient.

I'm using the latest version of the Windows desktop application 3.10.0 , but I've run into several issues:

  • High RAM usage:  The Windows application uses more than 2 GB of RAM, which causes noticeable lag and reduced responsiveness even on my workstation PC, especially when working with large libraries.

  • Different behavior: Some features, particularly scripts and Rich Text fields, behave differently on Windows compared to Android. This makes usage inconsistent.

  • fields names : In some cases, field names are still visible on the desktop version even though those fields are hidden in the Android app, resulting in a different user interface.

Because of these differences, I even tried running the Android version through an Android emulator. While it provides behavior closer to the real Android app, it is not a practical long-term solution due to the additional resource usage and inconvenience.

My question is:

Is there any practical way to use the Android version of Memento Database on a desktop while maintaining the same behavior as on a phone or tablet?

Alternatively, has anyone found a reliable workflow that avoids these inconsistencies between the Windows and Android versions?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions or recommendations. Thank you!

Hallo

Hello

The different versions are different programs that use the same data. The developer tries to keep the differences to a minimum. The script differences come from the different Javea versions running on Android or PC. There used to be a program that mirrored the phone screen to the PC; perhaps that's a solution?

You might want to report the differences as bugs directly to the developer of Memento. He does not always monitor this web site. He can be reached at sup...@mementodatabasel.com

If you can mention specific issues with scripts, we might be able to point out a different way to accomplish the task that would work on both platforms.

With fields, are you concerned about hiding the field entirely? There are several different ways to hide fields, perhaps one of the other methods will work the same for you on both platforms.

If you have a Samsung android phone / tablet that supports DeX and a monitor that supports USB-C input, DeX will make a desktop experience while still running the android app.

Since Karam mentioned in his previous post (about the crash) that are using Android, besides DeX (for Samsung devices), another easy and built-in way to view the Android phone's screen on a Windows PC is by using the Phone Link app that comes with Windows. An example showing the Memento app for Android, open on my phone, displayed on Windows alongside Memento Desktop:

My phone does not support Samsung DeX, and Phone Link suffers from severe response lag. I have also tried scrcpy and various emulators, but both resulted in a very poor user experience."

Программа имеет опции "Зеркалирование экрана" и "Общий буфер обмена".
Они могут быть полезны в решении вопроса.

Thanks so much! I tried it, but unfortunately, the experience wasn’t perfect.

I also tried Samsung’s official Phone Link app, but I found scrcpy to be better:
https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy

However, even with scrcpy, it’s still not practical enough for my daily workflow. I’m still looking for a smoother and more reliable solution.
