Control when data syncs?

Hello group.  I am building some VERY large libraries (one almost a half-million rows).  I would like to be able to stop the automatic syncing of records until I am done setting up and loading data.  Is there a way to do that (short of killing the process)?  I've loaded the data directly from various CSV files, and want to make some modifications, such as column order, etc. before it all syncs to the cloud and then to my Android device.

As long as I'm talking about large datasets, does anyone have any idea how the really big one (half-million rows) might perform on the Android device?  It's a high end, fast device with lots of memory and storage space.  I also have several other libraries approaching 100,000 records.  If the performance is expected to be unusable, I can always break up the libraries into several, smaller ones (there are natural grouping in the data that would make this acceptable).

The more I use this, the more impressed I am with it.  It's a great tool (desktop and Android).

Thanks - David

I guess the syncing you're talking about is to the cloud, probably on a desktop machine. Android is local, though it'll sync to the cloud if you've put it on the cloud. It seems to me you could get it on Android, get your Android device off of Wi-Fi, cellular, etc, and do your update on Android. After it's done, when you reconnect, it should then sync to the cloud. Does that make sense?

Hi David

You can stop the Syncing by unlinking the Cloud Storage and keeping the database purely local. Just relink when you want to use it on another device or desktop.

As far as large libraries are concerned, from my experience I think that you'll encounter problems.

I have a database with 7 libraries, the largest of which is just shy of 50,000 records but others around the 30,000 mark which I use on a Galaxy ZFold 6 and a Galaxy Tab S11. The ZFold struggles with the addition of new records in particular, meaning that I often have to close the database and start again. The Tab S11 does this far less often. I have previously been advised by the developer that any library over 50,000 records will struggle, but they are looking at better handling of large libraries. Timescale unknown.

Don't even think about trying to work in 'Table' view with libraries of this size.

I persevere because, like you, I think that Memento is miles ahead of any other portable solution I have tried

By the way, I find the desktop version pretty well unusable. It's just too slow.

Hallo

Hello

I assume you want to work on the PC version. This requires a connection to the cloud. However, I noticed that you can disable this after a while (disconnect from Wi-Fi). But then you mustn't close and restart the program. It needs the connection again.

Thanks, all for the replies and information.  As expected, the half million record table is unusable, on both the desktop and phone (Samsung Galaxy Fold 5).  So, I'm working on splitting up that data into multiple tables (libraries).  That particular table isn't critical anyway.  Surprisingly, all the other tables, including one that is around 90,000 records, works OK on both platforms, even when displayed as a table.  The initial sync was painful on the bigger ones.  After the initial sync, performance is now acceptable.
