A Beginners Guide To Memento

Creating a simple contacts library, the related buttons have been highlighted with RED.

Within the main Memento interface, select + > Add Library > Custom and label it ‘Contacts’.

There are customizable options here: Change the library’s color/text and its icon as well as the ability to password protect & encrypt the library.

After the library has been defined, we can now add some fields. As it’s a simple contacts library, we’ll begin by adding a text field for Surname, select the “Text” field type.

- Autocomplete – No (not required unless multiple contacts would have same name)

- Field Function – Entry Name (will appear on first line of list view)

- Required – Yes (entry must have a value – not allowed to stay blank)

- When finished – Press Done

Repeat the process for Forename.

Next, were going to touch on field dependencies:

- Create a ‘string value’ field called ‘Phone Number Type’.

- Add two values (Home & Mobile) and if required add some thumbnails by clicking on the squares at the right.

- Ensure the field function is set to ‘Regular Field’

- When finished – Press Done

Where going to create the dependencies:

- Create a ‘phone’ field called Home Phone.

- Ensure the field function is set to ‘Entry Description’

- Select ‘Dependencies of the field’ and ‘Add a dependency’ > Select OK (Phone number by default)

- Tick Home only > Press Done

Repeat for ‘Mobile Number’ (remember to link Mobile dependencies)

This only displays the field selected, example – Phone Number Type:

Home – will show Home Phone field but keep Mobile Number hidden.

Using the experience you've learned, create an ‘email’ field ensuring field function is set to regular field.

Now create an ‘image’ field and change the field function to ‘Thumbnail’, this will create a small thumbnail icon for your contacts.

If you look at the figure below, you’ll see the library is now complete and ready to receive some data. Try experimenting by entering some data.

The final results, in both record view & list view. Memento even has the functionality to allow you to call, text or even email directly from within the application.

Please feel free to ask any questions or suggest any ideas/corrections.

I'm following how you create a field to select the type of phone number (home or mobile).  Then you enter a phone number which will be in either the Home Phone or Mobile Phone field depending on the value selected for the type of phone.  What if I want to enter both a mobile phone and home phone number?  Is there a way to set it up where they can enter any number of phone numbers with their type?

Hi Elspeth,

The choice aspect is to give beginners an easy quick understanding of field dependencies. There are a few cunning ways to achieve what your looking for.

1. Don't include field dependencies, this will eliminate any 'hidden' fields leaving both the home & mobile free.

- For visual effect, you may want to change your initial Phone Number Type to a Text with the default data as Home & add an additional Text field type just above Mobile number.

2. You can set-up a multi-select with the options for how many additional phone fields you want. You can create dependencies based on the number selected to show the number defined in the multi-select. With a bit of time, you could technically have limitless email addresses.

@Jebb: How can you link a contact to a multiple records, like for example, addresses.

Yes, but you have to make "contacts" & "addresses" as 2 separately library as following:

Contacts
- name <<==== to this

Addresses
- name ====>> (link entry)
- address

now, if you open library "contacts", and make a record of new person. after that, when you check the person details, there is a section for address, you may see a "new" button before that section, click that, you can add as many as you would like to associate to this person.

Hope that's helps.

@all - can we...?
@hemant - if not & have bigger contact list, you can do is to export it from google (manual or through app). Then make a library with all the fields google contact have. Now open your created library and import the file you export from google. Followed by some next, next here is the complete google list.

To sync do the export, import job at your preferable time.
