I looked through the discussions but didn't find this particular situation. If I missed it, please send me the link.

I haven't done this in a long while so I followed the instructions on the Memento wiki. I created the library in my Android with field names matching the Google sheet, in the same order as the sheet, all are text. In the Android app I select "Link to Google Sheets" then "Link to existing document." I select the Google sheet. A message flashes, something about authenticating but the library remains empty. I never get the prompt asking what direction to transfer data.

What am I doing wrong? What am I missing?

If I download the Google sheet to CSV and import into my Android app, then sync with the existing Google sheet, will I get duplicates? The Google sheet is shared.

Thanks for any advice.

You say "the Google sheet", but you don't say where it is. Is it in your Google cloud, and is the device you & Memento are on logged into the Google account that has the Drive? And is the sheet in the root directory of the cloud?

If yes to all, I don't know what's wrong, but I'm pretty confident that authentication is key to the answer. Double-check the individual file's permissions, the directory's permissions, and so on.

Instead of creating a library and fields that match the Google Sheet, have you tried importing directly from the Google Sheet?

If you click "Add Library" and scroll down underneath the templates there is an "Import From Google Drive." I would try that and see if it works. Otherwise I agree that it's probably an authentication issue.

The Google sheet is in the cloud. I am using the same Google account. The sheet is not in the root folder but a subfolder that is shared. Does it have to be?

My other database that is linked to a Google sheet is in the root folder.

What should I look for in terms of authentication?

When I tried this, it only showed a Google sheet that I already have linked to a database. That file is in the root folder. I don't recall seeing on the wiki, that the Google sheet needs to be in the root folder to be able to link.

My personal experience had been that it initially has to be in the root folder, but it can then be moved to a subfolder and will be found. Entirely through trial and error, I came to this conclusion, and I've followed a procedure whereby I create the sheet in the root, start the sync, and then move it into my memento subfolder, where it stays and continues to sync.

Below do you mean move the file into a Google subfolder? I am not using the Memento cloud.

I temporarily moved the file to the root Google folder and this time Memento flashed a message about authentication and then nothing. I also tried "Add Library" then "Import From Google" but it doesn't show the new file. I even restarted my phone. No difference.

If I download the CSV and import that into my existing (empty) Memento database, then try to sync, will I get duplicates?

Files all on Google Drive, database wherever it is -- In my case, usually on my Android tablet.

If you still get authentication errors, follow my earlier advice; I bet you are not logged into the same account you think you are. Drive and Memento Google accounts must be the same. Look it up; don't assume your instincts are right.

Not not that, then contact somebody: Google, sup...@mementodatabase.com, whomever.

Howdy!

I'm a bit new to memento, but it appears promising for our organization. I am trying to "Link to existing document", Memento loads the Google Sheets and I select the file which contains all the data I need to sync. A new window appears "Parameters of linking" where I have selected "Transfer data from the Google Sheets to Memento", but then under the List of fields in Memento and Google Sheets, every one of them is labeled "Not found". Option "Link" is grayed out. I am logged into the same account on Memento so I doubt it's an authentication issue.

I can create a new spreadsheet, but we have many forms/report formats that link to the aforementioned Google Sheet file and we need all the information to be centralized into one Google Sheet file (with multiple tabs).

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!
Aaron

After some fiddling, I finally figured it out. When linking Memento to an existing Google Sheet, Memento only looks at the last tab of a multi-tab Google Sheet. in Google Sheets, simply move the desired connecting table to the end of your tabs, ensure the field names (column headers) are typed exactly the same (caps does not matter), then try again and Voila! It works.
Cheers!
