Possible to sort by a Multiple Choice field?

Is it not possible to sort entries by a Multiple Choice field?

From what I can see, it's been suggested some DBs can't sort by a comma delimited field. Is that the problem here?

A kludgy way of doing this would be to create a second "text" field that holds the selected choice. You can make that second field "hidden" if you do not want to clutter the user screen. You auto fill in that second field in a "before create" or "before update" trigger. You can then sort on that second field.

I often use both of these two fields by having the text field display in the view window (with the choice field hidden), and have the choice field display in the edit screen (and have that second text field hidden).  Makes for a cleaner view and edit screens. Of course this only works if the user can select only one entry.
