Attached is a screenshot of an error message when trying to add an entry to a freshly copied database structure. When I close the messasge, the program shuts down.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Anson

Well, for one thing, I guess you're using the desktop edition of Memento? What release? If not desktop, what edition and what release? Do you have any other information that could help us (Windows, MacOS, Linux, iOS, Android, version of each, if desktop, version of the JDK)?

Hi Anson,

I've encountered this "page is null" error many times. It's often caused by the JavaScript engine losing its context or a conflict with the Java VM in the Desktop version.

Once this happens, a simple PC restart might not fix it because background processes or corrupted caches often persist. Here is the safest sequence to resolve this:

  1. Kill all processes: Open Task Manager and manually terminate all Memento-related processes. Look for Memento.exe, but more importantly, ensure you kill any javaw.exe or jxbrowser processes. They often act as "zombies" holding onto the error state.

  2. Clear the cache (Experimental/Risky): If the Task Manager doesn't work, you may need to delete certain files within the Memento program folder (under .memento in your user directory). Warning: This is quite risky. Only do this as a last resort, as it can compromise your library data.

The Desktop version's JS engine is much more unstable compared to the Mobile version. A thorough sweep of the processes in Task Manager is usually enough to get things moving again.

Best regards,
