I just installed City of Heroes: Homecoming and when I press the play button it cannot seem to find my version of direct x. I have version 12 installed but I get an error saying that I need directx 8 or higher. Any ideas? I am running windows 10 fully updated. Graphics card is gtx1050ti. I initially installed onto my d: drive but have also moved over to my c: drive and performed a file verify and still get the same error.

That did not work. It detected a newer version of directx and will not install. I am going to try manually resetting the version in the registry back to an older version to get it to install then run windows update again to reinstall version 12 and see if that works. Will let you know the results.

I have tried a couple of methods I found to install directx 9 along side directx 12. CoH still does not recognize directx being installed. The file I tried to install is directx_Jun2010_redist.exe. It seemed to do its thing and I installed from the dxsetup it unpacked in the tmp folder I setup for it. I also went into legacy features and enabled direct play. Still no luck. Any other ideas? Or should I try a virtual machine and run it in that?

Same issue as reported here Windows 10 64 pro. I have gone thru the install guide and double checked my work against the comments in this thread. I have run as admin, in compatibility mode, and made the Windows defender changes. Additionally after getting the DX8 error I get an input error stating the keyboard and mouse are not detected then the client crashes.

I figured it out. It was the fact that i was using a usb mouse. A trackball to be exact. Anyway I plugged in an old ps2 mouse and just left it sitting on the back of the pc and everything works great. The trackball works fine it, just was not being detected by the direct input and caused the error messages. I also got the direct input messages but figured it was a problem with directx. turns out it just could not find the mouse.

Hey guys, Im really getting frustrated with this one. I just bought a new 15in with retina and installed windows to game a little on it. So basically games using Directx 11 with windows 7 bootcamp won't not work at all. The games load, but the moment Directx 11 takes over in the menus weird things start happening and the games are unplayable. I believe they all come down to a problem recognizing resolution but reinstalling my gpu driver has done nothing and im now at a loss. 2 games. Diablo III, the mouse doesn't show it moving and is just frozen, but moving the mouse around results in things highlighting even though the mouse on the screen is still frozen in one spot(I know diablo runs on mac but ive heard its better on pc). And Crysis 2, huge resolution issues, not going fullscreen properly, mouse again not moving. When I turned directx off in crysis (it has the option unlike diablo 3) everything started working smoothly. So I ask, what on earth is going on???

First, thank you for the response. Secondly, unfortunately, it did not work. My problem is a little different. Windows sees my graphics card, I can use the nvidia control panel and everthing. It always just comes down to a compatibility with directx 11. As soon as I turn directx off, everything starts acting normally. Its very confusing to me.

I did. Turns out it had nothing to do with the mbp or the graphics card but with windows itself. When I installed windows I played with the settings first to get the best quality image I could on the retina screen. In doing so, I changed a setting in control panel, appearance and personalization, then display to make the text larger (after changing the resolution to retina everything was extremely small so I tried this to compensate). Turns out this setting caused issues with dx11. Once I changed it back to default (smaller-100%) everything has been fine.

Windows 11 behaviour is currently as we wish but as Microsoft are actively updating Windows 11 adding features and changing some of its behaviour. We are continuously working on improvements, if you find something is not working the way you would like please let us know by emailing itsu...@physics.ox.ac.uk.

These are the minimum system requirements for installing Windows 11 on a PC. If your device does not meet these requirements, you may not be able to install Windows 11 on your device and will have to purchase a new PC which is compatible with Windows 11 as well as complying with University and Departmental policy's. If you are unsure whether your PC meets these requirements, you can check by emailing itsu...@physics.ox.ac.uk please include the system name, were possible manufacture and model. Below is the minimum device requirement, but we would for example recommend a 500G drive.

The list below is not a comprehensive list but is based on devices tested so far. A hardware compatibility test will need to be run to confirm the device will run Windows 11 before updating.
Please Note: Some models have may run Windows 11 clone at the current time but are not fully compliant, they may not have TPM 2.0 and/or Intel 8th Generation or later CPU. Unsupported systems may fail or become unstable with a future updates.
