Dear MEME team,

I am using the online MEME-ChIP tool with a fasta file as input and the default parameters (except for the maximum width which is set to 6, same as minimum). I get the following error message:

MEME-ChIP exited with error code 25
Unable to parse more as there are unhandled errors: motif@site_distr has invalid value "" at /data/apache-tomcat/instance/meme/work/meme-5.4.1/lib/meme-5.4.1/perl/CheckingSAX.pm line 44, <$fh> chunk 33.

Is there an error handling guide available?
Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,
Eva Giannaki

Hi Eva,

This message indicates there was an internal error in the program. Can you forward us a copy of you input data or a link to your job? These will help us troubleshoot the problem.

Thank you for your response!
I am attaching you the fasta file of the input data I used.

Kind regards,

It looks like there is a bug in STREME if the motif size is exactly equal to the width of all the sequences. This causes the generation of the HTML output to fail, though the XML and plain text output still work. The STREME.TXT file indicates that STREME didn't identify any statistically significant motifs in you input data. I also re-ran your data using STREME allowing for motifs between 3 and 5 positions wide. This allowed the HTML output to be correctly generated, but still, no statistically significant motifs were found.

Our apologies for the inconvenience, and thanks for alerting us to the problem. We'll get the bug fixed in the next release of the MEME Suite.
