Purging elements from memcachedb

Hello all,

Couple questions:

I notice that memcachedb keeps a ton of log.XXXXX files around in
addition to a "data.db" file. Can these .log files be deleted
periodically?

Also, when we delete items from memcachedb, we don't see the size of
the "data" file decrease at all. Is this is expected? Does memcachedb
not free up disk space immediately upon deletion?

We run this periodically (every hour) to remove unused log files:

/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.7/bin/db_archive -d -h /var/db/
