Dear members of the APMP,

I am organising a workshop titled Analysing the Role of Signs in Mathematical Inventions that will take place at Aarhus University, Denmark on June 1-2, 2026.

Please see the attached document for further information.

Description:

This workshop brings together scholars from diverse disciplines to explore whether visual aids—such as diagrams and notations—shape the development of mathematics. Importantly, the aim is also to address methodological questions: How can we analyse (mathematical) signs to determine their role? What tools do disciplines such as semiotics, the history and philosophy of mathematics, cognitive science, information science, and mathematics education provide for this analysis?

In addition to invited speakers, a limited number of contributed talks will be included.

Submission details:

  • Abstract: max. 500 words
  • Deadline: 15 February 2026
  • Notification: 15 March 2026

Please send your abstract to jes...@css.au.dk

Best wishes, Jessica
