OCAL (Odia
Cultural Association of London) would like to invite you all to attend the
“Digital celebration”
of our Odia festival “KARTIKA
PURNIMA & BOITA BANDANA”. Many Odia families in the United Kingdom have shown interest to celebrate the auspicious month (Dharma
Masa) of the year.
The last five days of this month are very important known as
“Panchuka”
and the very last day is being celebrated as “Kartika Purnima”.
On this auspicious day, early in the morning people observe the ritual of
“Boita Bandana”
by floating handmade boat made from Bamboo or Banana stem decorated with colours and candles in the nearest water pond or river
to remind the past glory. In the olden days, the Sadhbas (Sea traders) used to go distant islands like Java, Sumitra etc for their trade. The women gave them a hearty send off on the day.
“Bali Yatra” is the most famous festival which start on Kartika Purnima and continue for a week. The silver city Cuttack Bali Yatra is the home of this festival.

On this occasion, please join us to celebrate digitally on Sunday, the 29th of November, @15:00 hrs. The event is organised to offer you to watch and participate in various festival related programs such as:
