Right now I've been really enjoying "Brass Cupcake." I like when Buzzo sings melodically- he's really good at it and I don't think he uses that technique enough. Plus, I'm pretty sure at least part of the song is about his dogs harassing him for dinner which I'm sure all dog owners can relate to!

i'm thoroughly enjoying the whole thing.
it's definitely got that 'new melvins' sound, but they are returning to some heaviness and weirdness (most important) of yesteryear - which is a serious relief.
I'm still waiting for a Gluey Porch Treatments 2K... but not holding my breath.

Yes! The weirdness has been lacking but it's making a resurgence. I also like how on this one and on Tres Cabrones, you can tell the band's having fun. I subscribe to Decibel Magazine, and so many of the pictures of bands have them looking like very serious tough guys. Why the long face, gentlemen? You're playing music, it's supposed to be fun! That enjoyment comes through when I listen to those two CDs.

i've only given it one run-through, but yeah, plenty of weirdness, which is a good thing.

and they're playing like 5 dates in florida in november, one even in my little burg, so i'm pretty stoked.

cool seeing the nerd list resurgance (what'd i do with my patch? fuck).

Screw you guys.   I'm still sitting on an amazon delay and avoiding soiling my ears with a low quality pandora preview.

PS:  RIP Brett Ellis "smellis".   The man that introduced me to the nerdlist and childhood friend of Buzz and Dale.   ...in case y'all haven't heard.   He will be missed.

I was briefly introduced to Smellis in Portland at a Melvins show. We shook hands and said hi, but it's his grin that I'll never forget, once he realised how far I'd travelled to see his favourite band. He was the grin reaper.

There's a German vinyl bootleg of Bullhead making the rounds in Europe at the moment, unfortunately. So if you see a copy on eBay that looks too good to be true, it IS too good to be true.

I found this fundraising link for Bret's family in his obituary, in case it's interesting to anyone:

http://www.gofundme.com/7qbbbc

His obituary mentions his Melvins fandom, which is pretty damn rad. It's below, in case the link isn't working for anyone else (didn't for me).
This is making me sadder than I would have expected..

-----------------

Longtime resident William “Bret” Ellis passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was 45.

Bret was born in Seattle, Washington on January 14, 1969 to William and Jeanette (Sorensen) Ellis. After living in Redmond, Washington, Bret moved to the Harbor in 1980. He graduated in 1987 from Aberdeen High School and in 1989 from Grays Harbor College.

Corporal Ellis was a 19 year veteran of the Aberdeen Police Department having served as a Patrol Officer, Detective and member of the SWAT team.

Bret was a veteran of the Navy, serving aboard U.S.S Okinawa during Operation Desert Storm.

Bret was an Assistant Cub Master in his son’s Cub Scout pack and was an Eagle Scout from Aberdeen Troop 5.

Bret loved boating with his family in the San Juan Islands, digging razor clams and salmon fishing on the Chehalis River in his red boat. Bret was an enthusiastic supporter of Melvins, an influential rock band with roots in Grays Harbor. Bret traveled to countless shows up and down the west coast over the past 25 years.

Bret is survived by his loving wife Becky of 18 years, his 12 year old daughter Molly and his 10 year old son Mason at the family home in Montesano, his parents Bill and Jeanette Ellis of Edmonds, Washington and his brother Joe of Portland, Oregon, and his family.

A Memorial fund has been established at http://www.gofundme.com/7qbbbc, (go to www.gofundme.com and search for “Team Ellis”). Twin Star Credit Union is also accepting memorial gifts on behalf of the family under the Aberdeen Police Guild Account.

To sign the online book of memories or to light a memorial candle please visit www.harrisonfamilymortuary.com

Couldn't agree more! "Brass cupcake" kicks! This is yet another "grow-on-you" album by our mighty Melvins. I couldn't get to grips with the previous one either 'til aftr a while. ....and yet again, like the last one they have a marathon-song (Tres Cabrones had 2 as i recall) which absolutely rules the album "Bunk Up" IMO - i love the accordion!

The Bunk Up should go on for 30 minutes or so. The accordian and pipes-type stuff with that bass and drum is astonishingly addictive.

Agreed! It should've been the Olympic Marathon instead of the New York Marathon :)

Anybody heard anything about who they'll be touring with next year yet? There are mumblings about a European tour with Pinkus in May. God, I hope so. It has also been suggested that Buzz has hinted at a full-blown U.S. tour in the summer, also with Pinkus.

Anybody going to the Melvins/Fantomas show in Chile on 5th December? Wish I had the pennies for that.
