The message that comes up when Outlook can't set up an encrypted connection automatically caught a couple of users off guard this week. After calling their mail provider to verify the account supports encryption, they asked me what was wrong with Outlook.

This message doesn't mean that the mail server doesn't support encryption, it just means Outlook's Auto Account Setup can't determine the correct settings to use. This is caused by incomplete or missing autodiscover records in DNS. As a result, you'll need the account up manually if you want to use encryption.

is there a need to mention incoming and ougoing server information in this blog?
and the screenshot that you attached is not the window that opens when you select manual configuration for setting up Outlook.

I am having this problem too. I've manually entered the settings. I'm using MS Outlook 2007, attached to an AOL mail account. I receive and send email using that account from all my other devices, which suggests the problem is in my Outlook app or my PC. I can use the online AOL account. I've run "Repair email account," tried turning off the Windows firewall, and other things. Any suggestions?

I don't know if this will help, but I finally found that the problem was not on the desktop side, but on the server/hosting side. I use exchange server, hosted by Microsoft, and had to turn off "Security Defaults" in my Office portal. Once I had done that, Outlook stopped asking repeatedly for the password. I guess the problem might be the same with other email hosts as well, just try to find out if there is a setting somewhere on gmail/yahoo/outlook or whatever you are using. Gmail have a "support for less secure apps" setting that caused some trouble if it was enabled.

My security defaults are turned off in AAD but still the issue persists. Also, the user in getting is prompted by " Help us protect your account "every time trying to login to Azure portal. Have troubleshooted with re configuring MFA to Microsoft authenticator app and SMS but seems to have not fixed the issue.

Two days ago, our "alif...@yahoo.com" login credentials suddenly started getting "rejected by the server." None of the suggested fixes makes any difference. Tried various things for two days, with no luck. We're going to install Thunderbird and see if that will work for us in place of Outlook.

an encrypted connection to your mail server in not available click next to attempt using an unencrypted connection. When configured outlook using internal network getting above error. But on external network able to configured working fine.

I finally solved this problem using the steps described above too including adding the 2-step verification on my Google account before I could see the Apps Password option. I am using Outlook 2010 running on Windows 7 Ultimate desktop PC.

Dear all if some one use the kaspersky antivirus the main causes that prevent connection between your mail to server side that protect your pc to communicate with office 365 just remove the antivirus and delete the old outlook profiles and re configure the outlook also install antivirus again.

And then it appeared An encrypted connection to your server is not available. Then I tried unencrypted connection, the result was also the same.

HI Paul,
I have a problem setting up my gmail account with outlook. When I search for the settings It cannot find then and it gives me this message An Encrypted Connection to Your Mail Server is Not Available. How can I get this fixed, Ive also tried to manually confugure the account but stil doesnt work. Can you help me with other alternative ways to fix this or give me the manual config. settings please.

Entra ID classifications don't seem very exciting because they're text-only visual markers for Microsoft 365 groups and teams that don't come with any of the intelligence built into sensitivity labels. However, classifications can do a useful job for Microsoft 365 tenants that don't have the necessary licenses for sensitivity labels or who don't want to implement sensitivity labels.

From Control Panel > Mail > Email accounts > New > Manual Setup > here I put the email and gets stuck at "Searching for... Settings" and then " An encrypted connection to your email is not available, click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection", so I do that and get the error "We're sorry we couldn't set up your account automatically. To try setting up the account yourself click Next" which is basically the same.

In the outlook app I have my personal e-mail but I can't add another account, it is not an SPA, just a "normal" mail. Is it possible to do that? Last year work perfectly and all January and February 2023. My boss can use it but I can't.

Important: Outlook 2016, 2019, 365 and 2021 for Windows don't support manual setup for Exchange accounts or setup using the Outlook profile helper tool. It can only connect to Exchange automatically using the Autodiscover feature. Read the Knowledge Base article What Is An Autodiscover Record And Why Do I Need It? for information on how to check and configure it. If you are experiencing issues connecting your mailbox automatically using the methods listed below, read the Knowledge Base article How Do I Troubleshoot Connectivity Issues In Outlook for Windows? or contact Support.

Note: If it doesn't accept login/password (i.e. you get prompted for password again), and the password works for OWA (webmail), read the Knowledge Base article for How To Fix The Credential Prompt Error In Outlook 2016/2019/O365 Desktop Client For Windows and the last 2 steps for Outlook 2016 and newer in the Knowledge Base article How Do I Save My Outlook Password? for some troubleshooting steps you can try. If it doesn't help, contact Support.

Note: if you see a message saying Something went wrong and Outlook couldn't set up your account. Please try again. If the problem continues, contact your email administrator, this usually indicates an issue with the autodiscover resolution. Try to configure the mailbox using the Windows control panel. If it doesn't work either, read the Knowledge Base article Why Can't I Connect My Outlook To Exchange and How Do I Troubleshoot Connectivity Issues In Outlook for Windows? for some troubleshooting steps you can try to fix the issue or contact Support.

After the restart, Outlook will only display emails for the period you specified. Older emails will still be available to you in Outlook if you click on Click here to view more on Microsoft Exchange button.

Note: if you see a message saying An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available. Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection, this usually indicates an issue with the autodiscover resolution. Read the Knowledge Base article Why Can't I Connect My Outlook 2016/2019 To Exchange and How Do I Troubleshoot Connectivity Issues In Outlook for Windows? for some troubleshooting steps you can try to fix the issue or contact Support.

You can set the new Outlook profile to be the default one when you open Outlook or make Outlook prompt you for a profile to be used every time you open it. To set this, open the list of profiles as described in step 1 of this section, select the option and click Apply

I am trying to setup my account in Office 2016 but am getting the following error:
'An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available. Click next to attempt using an unencrypted connection.'

I am with Telstra Bigpond. My email address is ...@bigpond.com and can login using webmail with no issue.
Upon contacting Telstra they said it wasn't an issue on their end and to have someone look at the PC.

I am with Telstra Bigpond. My email address is ...@bigpond.com
If this bigpond email address is say less than 2 years old try logging into outlook.com with it, if it works then dont use the bottom half of that link that is for IMAP, use and exchange active sync compatible service when setting up outlook, m.hotmail.com should be the server address.
