So, I think that reading the book helped explain a lot of what was
happening in the book. What happened to Paul and his relationship
with Jefferson and Grant? And I think they missed out on the town/
children's waiting for the execution. I did enjooy the movie, though.
Sometimes I think a look/facila expression is worth a thousand words.
Nanan and Tant Lu certainly gave those looks.

I really must agree with Gail--I think the movie gave a more rounded completion to the book.  I felt a deeper sense of closer with the movie--which is impressive, since movies based on books can so often leave one feeling a lack of something.  However, they definately did skip over some significant things--as Gail mentioned the relationship with Paul is such a powerful part of the book, and I came away feeling a bit like they toned down Grant's character at points, he just didn't seem as angry.

I want to thank you all again for last evening.  The food was spectacular and I felt our conversation was very fruitful and gave us a lot to think about.  I know that many of you had mixed feelings about the book, which I don't necessarily take as a bad thing.  I think conversation could turn a bit boring if we all loved the book and had nothing but similar things to say.  I chose the book for it's ability to create thought-provoking conversation, while at the same time knowing that there could be some negative feelings about it.  I hope you all are looking forward to our coming months together, as much as I am.

Peace on this blustery Monday morning,
Vicar Tina
