Dear friends,

We have good news for you all!

There is a Special Issue on Melioidosis ‘Melioidosis in South Asia’ in Current Research in Microbial Sciences.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/current-research-in-microbial-sciences/about/call-for-papers#melioidosis-in-south-asia

Current Research in Microbial Sciences is a gold open access (OA) journal, which means articles are permanently and freely available. It is a companion to the highly regarded review journal Current Opinion in Microbiology (COMICR; 2019 Journal Impact Factor 8.134, CiteScore 14.0) and is part of the Current Opinion and Research (CO+RE) suite of journals. All CO+RE journals leverage the Current Opinion legacy-of editorial excellence, high-impact, and global reach-to ensure they are a widely read resource that is integral to scientists' workflow.

The Special Issue focusing on Melioidosis in South Asia is planned after the successful completion of the 3rd South Asian Melioidosis Congress in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It holds paramount significance as it addresses a multifaceted approach to understanding and combating this infectious disease. Melioidosis, caused by the bacterium Burkholderia pseudomallei, poses a substantial threat to human, animal, and environmental health in the region. By delving into the epidemiology, the Special Issue will shed light on the prevalence and distribution of the disease, enabling the formulation of targeted preventive strategies. Exploring the pathogenesis will enhance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying infection, facilitating the development of effective treatments. Highlighting the varied clinical presentations is essential for early and accurate diagnosis, while investigating management strategies will contribute to improved patient outcomes. Additionally, the inclusion of research on the impact of Melioidosis on animals and the environment is crucial for a comprehensive One Health perspective, recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. This Special Issue serves as a pivotal platform for sharing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and ultimately mitigating the impact of Melioidosis in South Asia.

Any research work or review or communication on melioidosis from South Asia or with special mention of South Asia is most welcome!
