Cases of Meliodosis in New Caledonia

Hello,

I am a physician, working at the Pasteur Institute in New Caledonia and
I would like to inform you about our research projects on melioidosis.
You can read the summary of the article that we are writing and that I
will present in France in a few months, and the map of the cases (cf
attached files).

We would really like to collaborate with you to deepen our knowledge
about this disease and improve the researches on soil and water.
Some researches were made in 1984 but never again since then. Regarding
the regular cases that we observe in New Caledonia (19 since 1999, all
in the same region), it seems necessary to study our soils again.

We also want to study the strains (2 strains were sent to the Imperial
College of London in 2004 and clustered with Australian strains: cf S.
Le Hello, B.J. Currie, D. Godoy, B. Spratt, M. Mikulski

, F. Lacassin, B. Garin, (2005) Melioidosis in New Caledonia, Emerging
Infectious disease 10)), and we were wondering if you do also identify
the strains by MLST and if we could eventually send you the isolates?

Thank you for your answer. We will for sure organize all the details and
the shipment with Mark Mayo. Actually, we just need the shipment
permission, all the strains are ready to be sent.
