Thanks for your sharing. Two very interesting articles highlight the mysterious nature of many Burkholderia pseudomallei infections. In Hainan, numerous cases also remain unexplained in terms of their infection sources. Last year, we isolated the bacterium from the wound pus of a patient following a mosquito bite and detected bacterial DNA in mosquitoes from the patient’s living environment, though we did not isolate live bacteria from the mosquitoes. Confirming the natural reservoir and preserving bacterial strains will aid in tracing the source of infection.

Thanks for sharing.

A fascinating report. The persistence of this ST41 strain over decades is remarkable, and the link to extreme weather echoes what we've seen with the post-typhoon cases in Hong Kong.

It strongly suggests we may see melioidosis emerge in previously non-endemic areas as the climate changes.

Best,

Ivan

Hi Jay,

Thanks for sharing. The presence of ST41 in the US is an interesting finding. It was a high proportion of clinical isolates we found in Central Vietnam.
