Thank you all for your rapid responses.
Hadrien, you have a couple of leads to follow up there. I will leave it to you to do this.
If you aren’t able to work anything out with Paul or Liz then my suggestion would be to register with the melioidosis google group (melio...@googlegroups.com) and ‘advertise’ yourself on there to see whether anyone can offer you an opportunity. I could also approach colleagues in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and possibly Vietnam, when I am at the South Asian Melioidosis Congress from 25th November, so let me know if you need me to do this.
Good luck and let me know if I can be any further help.
BW
David

Hi Hadrien,
We would be able to welcome you to COMRU at Angkor Hospital for Children, Siem Reap. The only caveat is that it would be for a predominantly clinical placement in a paediatric hospital (in the quiet season for melioidosis). You’d be able to work with our clinicians on patient consults, ward rounds, antibiotic stewardship, and infection control issues. There would be exposure to on-going research projects during this too.
Let me know if this would be of interest and we can have a call.
Best wishes,
Paul

Thanks David and Hello Hadrien from Laos. The dates are when we have already accepted various other students and visiting drs and we can’t accept anyone else. Later in the year could be possible if there is any flexibility around dates.
You are also welcome to email again in January if you don’t have an alternative placement in case someone drops out of coming.
Best wishes,
Liz

Hi you three.
I gave my usual DTM&H lecture on melioidosis a few weeks ago and today received the message below. This is a DTM&H student looking for an opportunity for a placement in a melioidosis-endemic area rather than an MSc project. Would any of you be able to help? If not I will cast the net a bit wider.

Dear David,
I hope this email finds you well. I'm one of the current LSHTM DTM&H students. On revisiting your lecture on meliod, I had the realisation that I find this topic fascinating and the lack of understanding of it quite motivating. I'm an Australian doctor and saw a bit of meliod while working in Darwin, although I've recently relocated to Switzerland for personal reasons (less meliod, unfortunately). I've got a few months off (January to May) before re-commencing in Lausanne and wanted to see if you had any openings for research positions within your team. I'm particularly interested in field research and would love to travel to an endemic region!
I've attached a copy of my CV for your reference.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Hadrien
