Thank you for creating a group on Melia Dubia, so that we can share
information on Melia Dubia Plants.

I have planted 110 saplings on boundarys before summer, some of them
perished because of heat and some of them are 5 ft in height.

During summer regular watering is necessary.

I am not sure about clay soils
from my experience

if u protect them height growth is is easy
but I think u will have to wait long for girth i.e >8 yrs

Hi Sir,

First of all thanks for the admin and all participants in this group.

I came to know about Melia Dubia through one of cousin, I have 12 acres of red soil land in Medak district, around 15 kms from Siddipet.
I got the little bit information over the net but no one talking about marketing or selling of these trees.

Kindly suggest me, whether to go for this tree cultivation or not based your personal experience, and if you can share any of the firm details or nursery details near to my place that would help me a lot. Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,
Sridhar

Hello Sridhar

if the land cost is low , I think u can go for it
however if u plan drip irrigation, I advise u to go for alla neredu ( kala jamun) / or special type of sithapal
I will give the project info I have ,
all information i have will be shared free of cost, I just need updates from your progress.
u can give me a call on 9701447819 , today or tomorrow

Malabar neem cultivators n farmers kindly observe the following hthings like the red soil is 100% suitable ,black soil, black cotton soil and clay paddy fields are not suitable.Kindly opt the following suggested n recommended spacing dimension like 10'x10.Suggested spacing dimension gives uniform yield. The melia dubia will grows in well manner in red soil under irrigation. So water facility is compulsory one.We offer complete consultancy for Malabar neem time to time and also the suitable negotiations are going with relevant buyers of Malabar neem logs.

Hi guys,

Here is an article released today on hindu news channel;

In a suggestion that could ease the worries of eucalyptus farmers and plywood industry in the country, Indian Plywood Industries Research Institute (IPIRTI) has said melia dubia trees (also called malabar neem or kaad bevu) should be grown instead of the water-guzzling eucalyptus tree.

Court’s directive:
Eucalyptus plantations have come under the scanner after the High Court recently directed the forest officials to consider the ban on the tree in Kolar and Chickballapur, where eucalyptus plantations are being blamed for the declining groundwater table.

“We found it to be conforming to the ecological standards, while offering more strength and girth suitable for the wood-panel industry,” said B.N. Mohanty, Director, IPIRTI, which is a research and development institution under the Ministry of Environment. He was speaking at the meeting of the South India Plywood Manufacturers’ Association (SIPMA) here on Wednesday. Wood-based panel manufacturers and government representatives discussed technological advances in the sector, and issues concerning it.

Needs less water
“Kaad bevu consumes less water compared to eucalyptus and can grow to a girth of 100 cm (or one metre) in less than eight years in well-irrigated areas. Its peeling qualities also help get the best veneers for the plywood industry,” said Mr. Mohanty.

He said discussions will be held with the Ministry and Central forest officials to take up large-scale plantation of Melia Dubia tree.
