We have a few users who were recently upgraded their laptop to Dell 5510 with Windows 11. Since then they are having issues connecting to the TVs (Veon brand TV) in meeting rooms wirelessly. When we do Win Key + K to try and connect to the TV, it would connect but than immediately drop out and disconnect.
Edit: Wow, just took one of the TV off the wall and it is actually using a Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter for the casting. I will need to have a look and see if there is some sort of firmware update for the device.
@Emond Lo
I have resolved the issue with the Microsoft Wireless Display adapters in combination with the Dell Vostro 5415-5515 laptop by setting the Wi-Fi adapter to preferred 2.4GHz. However, a firmware update that enables handshake on 5GHz would be welcome.
I recently bought a brand-new laptop Lenovo Flex 5 (2-in-1) to use in my classroom (I am a teacher) to display and manage my lessons directly on a projector that has a MS wireless display adapter (V2) on it.
This Lenovo Flex 5 won't connect to the display adapter no matter what I did.
I also got all the available Win 11 updates, checked and updated all possible display adapters. We got the most recent chipset drivers from the Lenovo website and installed it thinking it might have helped.
Then, I got a brand-new MS-Widi adapter (V2) just to rule out that something in the old MS-Widi might not be compatible with the Win 11. Still not connected.
I tried my friend's laptop (another brand) with Win 11 on it, and it connected.
You may be tempted to say that there is a hardware issue on the new Lenovo Flex 5, And I would say no because it connects to SAMSUNG tv's built-in wireless adapter, it connects to ROKU TV no problem.
I am out of options, and I have a few days left on the return window. If I can't make this work, I will have to return the laptop. The seller wanted me to do a fresh clean install of Windows 11 which I am not comfortable of doing. But instead, I performed the Windows Reset from Cloud (Remove my Files Option) which took almost an hour and pretty much factory reset the PC. Still NO GO.
Hi Reza,
I solved the problem :) Yes, it is solved, and I am very happy :)
The issue was the MSDisplayAdapter's firmware V.2.0.8350. Once I upgraded to the V.2.0.8442, the Lenovo successfully connected to it.
You may ask why I didn't upgrade the Widi firmware before. I tried many times with my other laptop that has Windows 10 on it. Because it was able to connect to the Widi adapter ,and I was able to use the MSDisplayAdapter app. However, it wasn't updating the firmware when I picked the "Update & Security" tab. It was just hanging and doing nothing. I was under the assumption that I already had the most recent firmware in the display adapter.
When I was using the app the other day (connected with Windows 10 from my other laptop) and desperately trying everything, looking for a solution. I left it connected for like an hour or so. And out of the blue, I tried to click on "Update & Security" tab thinking I would still get to nowhere. All of a sudden, it showed me that there was an available update. This had never happened before. It was showing the firmware V.2.0.8442 as available. It didn't say anything about Win 11 fix on "What's new on this version", but I went ahead and upgraded to it. Then I tried to connect the Lenovo and it connected immediately. :)
Wow, it is a huge relief. I now got to keep the laptop. It wasn't the Lenovo issue. It was the display adapter's firmware V.2.0.8350. For some reason this firmware (V.2.0.8350) has an issue when used with Lenovo laptops. I was able to connect to this firmware with a Win 11 from another brand laptop without a problem, and also from any laptop with Win 10 in it. But NOT with my Lenovo laptop.
V.2.0.8442 fixed this problem. And it added some nice wall papers to the Display Adapter.
Hope this post would help other people having this issue. And they would be able to fix it quickly. Due to the roadblocks at every step, I tried, it took me days to fix this problem. And I almost couldn't fix it.
Thank you for your help.
To update firmware on your Wireless Display Adapter, go to the Windows Store and install the Wireless Display Adapter App. This app provides settings and firmware updates for the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter.
Is there any chance you could bring the Wireless Display Adapter from work home, and see if you get the same result - and vice versa? (Trying to rule out whether this is an issue with the adapter or the laptop.)
Hi there, I'm having a very similar issue to the person who posted the original question... May I please ask for your help? I recently purchased my new HP Envy 17t-k200 and it came with Windows 8 installed. I immediately upgraded it to the new Windows 10 OS and tried to project the screen to my 43" Vizio E43-C2 LCD TV by connecting it to my attached"Excelvan 2015 Wireless Streaming Media Display Dongle" that I purchased from Amazon ( =1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01). I pressed the Windows key + P simultaneously to open the Project panel, selected 'Duplicate', then clicked 'Connect to a wireless display'. My laptop found my 'Dongle-91E01D'. I chose to connect to it and it showed "Connection in progress" on my TV screen. Then my laptop screen flickered a few times as if trying really hard to connect then after about 20 seconds or so my laptop says, "Something went wrong: Your display couldn't connect". Now this Dongle works very well with both my HTC One M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6 android devices but I've never had a laptop to try it with until I purchased this new HP. I've made sure that the device drivers are all up to date and that I have the most updated Windows and HP updates for my laptop. Please tell me what's wrong here;
Solution 7 of the Microsoft display adapters troubleshooting worked led me to the soltuion for me. The anti-virus was managing the firewall, so disabling the anti-virus (AVG Internet Network Security) allows the connection to work finally.
The home device is still not working. It will show in my list of available adapters but won't connect. When I delete it and then readd it, it will sit and the progress bar will move slowly. The TV will show that it is connecting to my pc, then the TV will go back to the ready to accept state and my pc will continue to show progress. Eventually my pc will show an error that it couldn't connect.
I have spectre x360 convertible 13 (late 2016) model and have the exact same issue. I can't find any definite answer whether my laptop should be compatible or not with the MS wireless display adapter. The description of the issue as stated by curtgruber seems to confirm that the laptop is widi/miracast/wirelessdisplay compatible but there's some kind of connection issue that's not resolved. Has anyone resolved this yet or can definitively confirm that the laptop shouldn't and won't work with MS wireless display adapter?
This lead me to think the autochannel feature on Meraki was the culprit, so I disabled all but 2 channels on the nearby access points but to no avail. I also tinkered with a lot of other settings in the radio settings page of the Meraki dashboard but none of those options really made a difference.
Air Marshal found the Miracast devices,but we haven't set it up to do anything with rogue ap's so they just got marked as "uncontained". To make sure Air Marshall wasn't the problem I've whitelisted the Miracast devices.
Hello - curious to hear if any resolution besides killing the 5g spectrum has worked? We are in the same scenario, as we have all our conference room TV/displays using Microsoft Wireless Display Adapters. Laptops will seemingly connect after initial power on, and then disconnect and never re-connect again.
Unfortunately no, I did not find a proper way to get it working without disabling 5Ghz in the Meraki network. Also good to know you tried using widi adapters, my next step was to buy a bunch of Miracast dongles and see if that works.
