HI Russell
I wanted to use the bios sata raid 1 and had issues with the Linux installer
still seeing the individual drives instead of the raid array.
I got around it by disconnecting 1 drive, installing Linux on it, shutting
down, reconnect the other drive, and the bios detected the mismatch and
asked to rebuild the array. I just yes and away it went. It has been happy
ever since.

No. It get gets wiped completely in the rebuild even if there is something
on it.

Not Sure. I had them in sata1 and sata2 sockets on the board. I unplugged
sata2.
I am not sure if it works that way, or whether it uses some kind of flag to
know which one is the main and which one the copy.
