I first suspected Flash to be the culprit but uninstalling it didn't
fix anything. I've also wondered if it is that gxine, vlc and helix
intersect on some mime types but videos generally don;t seem to crash
the browser, either. :(
Anybody sharing my pain?

Christian
Sorry, I should have mentioned that. I'm on Gentoo ~x86 which means
that I already have 3.0.1.

That is strange. In DNS a trailing dot does not matter. The URL
http://mobile.optuszoo.com.au. would be valid and equivalent to
http://mobile.optuszoo.com.au .

But then completely uninstalling the plugin should work which I've
tried and it didn't fix the problem.

Ok. I'll give that a shot sometime. :)

Hm, I've never liked the free alternatives because too often they
couldn't handle documents I came across. However, that was years ago.
Maybe I should try that again, too.

Thanks for that. I might try and go with the free alternatives and see
where it gets me. I did suspect the plugins to be a problem but I stil
find it confusing that gdb will crash in xulrunner.

Actually, I never had bigger problems on FF2. With Opera my problem is
that Opera often freezes completely until it has loaded the whole page.
That can take ages because it doesn't seem to be very efficient in
pulling lots of images. Therefore I rarely switch to Opera.
