Viktor reminded us last night of Haskell's mantra "Avoid success at all costs" (which is lovely.. until you need a job).
Well, I hear echoes of the mantra in how our group has proven impressively invisible to Google's search engine radar.
Searching for "Melbourne Compose Group" doesn't return this google group in the first 10 hits:
https://www.google.com/search?q=melbourne+compose+groupDespite the exact name match with the group and despite it having active traffic. Hits 1 (my LinkedIn) and 4 (John's Reddit post) are at least relevant, but the other 8 hits have nothing in common with our group.
Google algorithm's prefers to highlight:
- Compose conference held in 2019
- Google group for said conference, just partial name match, no traffic since 2019
- FB post "We're looking for diverse male and female vocalists to record 12 original songs in our producer's Melbourne-based professional music studio"
I think the key to our invisibility is a lack of inbound links to the group. I guess deep down Google still works that way.
If you do attend, it would be helpful if you could post a link to our mailing list at
https://groups.google.com/g/melbourne-compose-group eg..
- On your LinkedIn
- on your blog
- on Reddit
- On your GitHub
et cetera
