Hi everyone!

There are lots of great community organisations in the City of Melbourne who I think could be our biggest allies in getting more people to cycle more often.

These groups are full of engaged people who are really interested in making our city better.

I was thinking - would anyone else be interested in organising a weekly ride with these groups? We could do it on a Sunday morning, and they would be very short (5k) designed for non riders or people who haven't been on a bike in years. The aim would be to design a route to show some of the great infrastructure in an area, and some of the places that need improving.

e.g. for the Carlton residents we could start on Swanston St, then ride on Grattan St and Rathdowne, into Canning then have a coffee at a cafe somewhere in Carlton.

The biggest logistical issue will be that some of the committee members on these organisations might not have bikes. We might need to organise some pub bikes to get things going. I'd say o-bike but without any gears these might not be the best option. One idea would be to get Melbourne Bike share to sponsor us.

What do you think?

Jonathan Nolan.

Great idea.

I had an o-bike account and used them when they were plentiful but for the last few months not a single one has unlocked when I scan it.

Should we organise training to make sure these ppl who don't own bikes can actually ride?

These rides would also be good for Melbourne BUG supporters to come along and see what we are proposing.

I've got a folding bike I can port on the cargo bike.

I guess that settles it - time to n+1 with a folding Brompton ebike.  ;)

Should training just be on the day? We can start somewhere safe and just let people know they have to be able to ride a little bit....

Jonathan.
