Pip from Bikefest asked me to help rustle up some more riders to take
part in the Moomba Parade, 12th March.
Katherine & I are going in the "harvest" themed part of the ride,
which is now fully subscribed but they are short of riders for the
Melbourne Bikeshare part of the ride. You get to ride a blue bike,
wearing one of their helmets, and other benefits as per Pip's email
below.

Monday 12 March, 8am - 1pm
Get a free bike helmet, BBQ and Bikefest Keep Cup
PLUS a $15 honorarium
Participants are asked to wear black shorts/bike pants on the day with
runners. A tshirt will be provided.

If you could ask interested parties to:
Email Ben via in...@thesqueakywheel.com.au with BIKE SHARE in the
subject line. Please indicate if you are male/female, your t-shirt
size and head measurement.
Here is some general info on the event
http://www.thesqueakywheel.com.au/?p=732

How many chances do you get to be part of the Moomba Parade in a
lifetime? It's so Melbourne!

How about riding a bikeshare bike dragging a whole pile of helmets or maybe
one big one. Might get across a message.

Hmmmm I'd like to see someone sneak that one through ;-)

What would happen if riders removed their helmets once the parade starts...
Police and parade organizers appear to believe it's safe to sit (without seatbelts) on the backs of convertables....

You'd think though that BikeShare would be selling the message that you *don't* need special sportswear to ride one of their bikes.

They'd be better off having people wearing their everyday clothes.
  • Frocks on Bikes,
  • Suits on Bikes,
  • Punks on Bikes,
  • Tradies on Bikes,
  • [stereotype] on Bikes
But not lycra or shorts & runners (not that there's anything wrong with that))

Good point about the seatbelts.
Helmets are round a bit like a ball. It just needs a few bits of plastic chain and you have the impression of the ball and chain.

When there's a decent way to promote Melbourne bike share then I'll be the first to put my hand up. This, however, is just embarrassing.

I will ride a sharebike if you want. Not in those disgusting black pants though.

Hi, I think "black shorts" is the alternative, if you have a pair - I
have some which I use when I'm out jogging.

BTW I don't like the clothing options myself, I think it was cooked up
as a "uniform" for the event by the bike share people, I know Pip is
not a lover of lycra herself. But if you would like to do it, just
wear floppy running shorts (black) that's acceptable.
