A gut vach and a gut codesh to everyone!
This week's story I heard from Rav Moshe Stepansky last week.
In the town of Crakow there was a man Chaim making a wedding for his daughter. Back then instead of sending an invitation to everyone people would hire a town crier to go to market and announce all the people who were invited. Their was a very prestigious Rabbi invited and he was insulted that his name not only wasn't the first announced but was almost the last on the list. He was so mad that his name wasn't the first. He was going to be the Mesader Kiddushin at the wedding and he was so far down the last. He thought it was so disrespectful he decided he would go to the wedding a few hours late to pay them back. He wanted to make them upset that they had to wait for him to start the wedding to get back at them for the disrespect they showed him.
So the day of Chaim's daughter's wedding comes and everybody is ready for the wedding to start but the Rabbi doesn't show up. There was another rabbi at the wedding which today we know as the Holy Rebbe Reb Zusha but at the wedding they did not know how great he was. When the town crier was announcing all the names of the people invited to the wedding and Reb Zusha heard his name he was so surprised and overjoyed that he was invited to the wedding. He was so happy that he decided he would go to the wedding a few hours early to show up. After waiting a while for the Rabbi who was supposed to be Mesader Kiddushin Chaim asked Reb Zusha to be Mesader Kiddushin and Reb Zusha again was so overjoyed for the honor and so happy.
When the other Rabbi finally came to the wedding they were already in the festive meal and Reb Zusha, partaking in the meal with so much joy, was at the head of the table were this Rabbi thought he belonged. The Rabbi was so outraged that they didn't wait for him to be Mesader Kiddushin. The Rabbi was so upset he wasn't being respecting he stormed over to tell off Chaim how wrong he was. Chaim was glowing with so much joy from his daughter's wedding that when he saw the Rabbi coming over to him he ran over to thank him for coming. Chaim didn't realize how upset the Rabbi was but apologized since there were no more honorable seats. He looked all over to find the Rabbi a seat and found one all the way in the back by the kitchen. There was no more food being served so Chaim apologized to the Rabbi and asked the waiter to take the Rabbi to the kitchen to find him something to eat. Chaim told the Rabbi that he wants him to say one of the Brachos for the Sheva Brachos at the end of the wedding. The Rabbi calmed down and went to kitchen to get something to eat. By the time he came out he saw Reb Zusha getting the last Sheva Brachos. The Rabbi was absolutely furious. He was so mad he stormed out of the wedding and went back to his house.
The next day the Rabbi saw Reb Zusha walking past his house. Reb Zusha was dancing and so happy while the Rabbi was still furious about being disrespected at the wedding. The Rabbi yelled at Reb Zusha "Zusha why are you so happy!" stopping Reb Zush in his dance. He responded (in his usual way of talking in the 3rd person which was one of the things he accepted upon himself in order to remove his ego) "Zusha is so happy all the time because he expects nothing, the Rabbi expects to be honored and then gets mad when he is not honored but Zusha did not expect to be invited to the wedding and did not expect to be the Messader kiddushin and Zusha recieved these great honors it made Zusha so happy."
