Hi,

I have just discovered Mekanimo and tried to download it from the main
website but I received an Access Denied error. I even joined up at
Mekanimo, logged in, clicked the download link but still cannot
download the mekanimo_setup_beta_1.3.exe.

Any suggestions? Or does anyone have that file so I can start using
this program?

Mekanimo is about to be released commercially. If you already have
the Beta 1.3 then you can keep running it till August 15th. New users
will have to wait a few days till I release the new version.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Fahri,

Do you have a price for the commercial version yet or a link to read
about the commercial version?

I'd be interested to learn more about it.

We will have individual, indie developer, commercial developer and educational licenses.  We don't have the exact pricing set yet but will have a limited time introductory pricing for the benefit of existing users.  They have been giving us valuable feedback and we feel like we should reward that.  After the first release we will have a Mac version as well.  There will be an option to convert your existing Windows version to the Mac version free of charge.  After that there will be a possible Debian Linux version but there is no date for that yet.

We have preliminary introductory prices for individual version and indie developer version (I have decided to call this Commercial-1 license, there is a huge fight out there for the definition of "indie developer", my definition is three people or less working as a team or company any team/company larger than three will be Commercial-2). These introductory prices are going to be for a limited time only.  What we used to call commercial license will be called Commercial-2 now.  For individual license (that means non-commercial usage) introductory price is going to be about $29.  The difference between the individual and commercial versions is the individual version will have no code export capabilities.  Commercial-1 is going to be about $99.  We don't have the Commercial-2 and educational pricing yet.
Planning to release it by next Friday.

What do you guys think?  Give us some feedback please.

All prices are US dollars. So the introductory price for you will be
about $99.

That sounds reasonable to me if the feature set and code export is
good enough for my use

With the last beta there were a few gaps that I have discussed with Fahri

Thanks.

How much of the code and capability can be exported for use in
Cocos2d? i.e. springs?

Mekanimo uses external forces to simulate springs and torsional springs (by using external torque).  Current version cannot export these since it would require a modified solver.  Some people use distance joints to simulate springs and I will add this as an option to the exported file probably in August.

It would be good of you could work in compatibility mode and only work
to export things which would function with the existing Box2D solver.

It would be good if there was an option to work in compatibility mode
to ensure anything we create can be used in Box2D for Cocos2D (or any
Box2D implementation), even if it means disabling certain things so
you dont make something which cant be used externally.

That should be possible. Mekanimo can disable the unsupported tools
(torsional springs, chains, etc) in the toolbox. I can add this as a
setting.

That would be great...where there is an option to "fudge" a feature,
such as converting a spring into a prismatic joint for example, so it
qworks in Coco2d, would this be possible as an export option - or in
the tool? There s huge Cocos2D market for you I hope.

off topic: I'd be interested in seeing an example of using a prismatic
joint as a spring. I've been using "soft" distance joints but they're not
quite what I need.

I can add a new argument to the createBox2DCpp function to handle
this.
I have no idea about the market size. This is why it is difficult to
come up with initial pricing. After we release the mac version I will
have a better idea about the size of the Cocos2D market.
If anybody has a clue about the Cocos2D market size I am all ears.

After the commercial release that is the first priority. Depending on
how our testing goes it should be in Sep. or Oct.

If I buy windows, will you offer a free upgrade to Mac. Assuming I
can used the exported C++ code in Cocos2D for iPhone?

Its more convenient to work on the mac for both, but if I knew the
exported code could be used, and there was a offer to migrate to Mac
later for free - I would buy on release.

Yes you will be able to convert your windows license to a mac license
when it is available. There will be no additional charges for this
transaction. Several people have been using the generated C++ code
with Cocos2D. In the future we would add support for direct Cocos2D
support if there is enough demand.

I'd like take the Mac license as well - and direct Cocos2D support
would be great.
