Dear Partners,
Its been 4 year that we have introduced / established MOBOTIX product in INDIA. Its been a challenge to educate people on the decentralised and Less Camera Concepts, even issues with ONVIF .. but looking at the resent trends, It looks like the industry is following our footsteps..
cheers to our partners who have adopted the latest technologies
Lets Review the Trends
1. Hemispheric Camera, MX introduced this camera in 2006/ 2007:
The market said that there is limited scope for this product, etc etc and this product will not be successful.. today in 2013 every manufacture has launched "Panoramic Camera".. Why..,.? MX and Its partners have proved that there is a market for this product and size of the market is so large that everybody want to join in.. with their own version of unique features..
a) +5 Megapixels : the challenge with 5 megapixel is
i) the light sensitive of the cmos sensor and the availability of 5 Megapixel Lens.. however rapid advancement in the Sensor technologies have / or will resolved this issues
ii) Bandwidths required to transmit these images : We have to understand that the demo shown is always with a single camera and never with 40 camera, why.. ?
- 5 megapixel camera data is 80MB/s at 15FPS in RAW when compared to 47MB/s in RAW 8 bit format of a 3Megapixel, under compression the least is 11MB/s for a 5Mega and 8MB/s
- 5 megapixel camera data is 132MB/s at 25FPS in RAW when compared to 78MB/s in RAW 8 bit format of a 3Megapixel, under compression the least is 18MB/s for a 5Mega and 12MB/s
The main question that need to be asked... how is possible to reduce the bandwidth..? its by compression.. how does one achieve 2Mbps ie 0.25MB/s.. ? its very very simple reduce the JPEG Quality setting to 20%~30% or Drop the frame rates.. dropping the JPEG Quality deteriorates the images. Using H.264 the streaming of such large data is counter productive and the use of megapixel does not add any benefit to the customer.
MOBOTIX uses the MxPEG Compression and which does not compress the Moving Parts of the images and retains the sharpness, we at HQ are striving to get the equilibrium between the FPS and Bandwidth and We shall be Introducing the 5Mega Pixel product range in the next Qtrs of FY12-13 (FY13)
2. Decentralised System: MX from 1999 has not trusted the centralised server technology as it did not work for the IT industry.. (The "main Frame" of the world had to give way to "PC")
the industry is trying its best to play catchup.. Milestone, Axis, Vivotec, you name them are in the game of camera recording directly to ~Storage instead of using the VMS software.. at last the industry in 2013 is now clear that future is Decentralised and not centralised..
MOBOTIX with the new FPGA Platform, is enduring to free the CPU from the Images Processing, hence improving the reliability of the system in image processing and also Network handling.
3. ONVIF: H.264, MX has steered itself clear of MOVIE Industry, we have not used the H.264 in Surveillance but in VoIP, ie only for Video over IP.. MxAPP, QCam Pro are two app for Iphone which uses MxPEG its very very light on the Display Units CPU.. on storage SYNOLOGY has incorporated the MxPEG for recording.. Why..?
- The Industry has always tried to reduce the Storage requirements by doing compression in Analog we used to record in CIF on the DVR.. and
- with DAS / NAS / SAN we used H.264 to reduce the storage by compressing the image to such extent that the video was useless, in IP camera.
- The VM algorithms are not working and have false alarms in low light condition.
- The VM failed when used in crowded places like Malls, Road, etc
MX believes that compression beyond a point make the video useless hence we have always focused to make the recording efficient by making the VM ( video Motion detection) logic Stable. In this path breaking / game changing we have showcased the "activity sensor" algorithm at the NPC 2012.. The Beta & RC are presently tested all over the world and feedback is that we have reduced the storage by 40%~60% in high movement areas and in high people per sq ft. such as workspace / workshops / floor Area of malls/ Schools & Colleges. etc.
Activity Sensors is free update to all our customers and planned to be released end of this Qtr.. Imaging just by updating the camera you can now record for 50days instead of 30days.. or for green filed installation the cost of storage is furtger reduced by 50%.. 100 camera 30 days earlier costed 6Lac and now cost 4lac..
Let come to the FPS issues, which is major concern to some of our customer and Partners, lets understand the issue and the solution..
- People who have installed camera and wanting good quality images have noticed that for VGA or D1 resolution Camera ( 480TVL or 576TVL) the Bandwidth is about 4Mbps ~ 6Mbps per camera on H.264
- 100 camera would have a total requirements of 600Mbps for a single stream system and 1200Mbps for dual Stream system, this would mean that the back haul / backbone of the IP surveillance system has to be 10Gbps.. Cost matrix of 10Gbps network make the the solution expensive
- Almost all IP camera solution demand an independent network for Surveillance.. why..? its because of above VBR on H.264 increase the bandwidth above 12Mbps (example busy roads, gate of factory with large movements, open grounds / perimeters with large trees and shrubs..
With MxPreview available on the each of the MOBOTIX camera and in combination with "Activity Sensor" you have now the option to install MX Camera on existing networks and even wireless..
Pls feel free to email srikant...@mobotix.com or write back to us, we shall be conduction webinars and sales training / updates for sales people..
Await the part II.. address the issues faced by the IP Surveillance industries..
Thanks & Regards
