I'm not sure if I'm blind or if it's genuinely not in the API, but I was planning on pruning members who've been in the group for two years and haven't shown up to an event. However, I'm not seeing any call in the API docs to let me remove a member from the group? Surely there's some way for me to be able to bulk remove members?

Maybe you could use the Member Decline option.  Send a Delete command for the member.

I've always been confused by concept of punishing members who haven't found any of the events interesting enough to attend.

The ill-will and "I got kicked out for no reason" word of mouth is likely far worse than just ignoring members who aren't active.

I'm speaking as a marketer and experience engineer, I don't know your specific situation.

Thanks!
Joe

I we don't officially support removing members via the API.

We do however realize that this is something some of our organizers appreciate having the ability to do when they find members that join but aren't a the fit they are looking for. As such, we'll will likely address this our own apps at some point in the future, meaning it will also be an option to all of you.

At this time, it's not something we officially support.

The only major risk I see is that someone who isn't any longer interested in the group, but too lazy to leave (the majority, I guess), will simply use their mail system's block or report as spam functions to mute the group's email messages - which could cause issues, in particular for larger groups.

When I ran the most active and popular singles group on the east coast (Meetup verified it at the time while we were having drinks), I took pride in showing that the number of Active members was truly Active.  I didn't wait for 6 months of no emails from Meetup to delete a member, I deleted a member after 3 months of not viewing the Group site.  If they didn't feel the need to even RSVP for an event after 3 months, then there was no point in counting them as active. If all they were doing was stalking the event emails and not RSVPing, then I didn't need them in the group either, because some events had size limits and we didn't need people showing up who didn't RSVP.

Again, it is a personal choice among organizers. I always felt that it was an honesty thing, to show how well the group was doing.
