Hi.

About 6 months ago, our group made a commitment to resolve the "No-Show" issue.  Many members who would like to be more active stopped bothering to view the events because "chronic" no-showers would RSVP filling all the spots.  Now I keep very detailed no-show records and help folks find the door on no-show #3.  This has had an amazing impact not only on no-shows, but tardiness as well, since folks want to make sure and not miss roll-call.

We went from at 50% no-show to only 2 or 3 per event!!

BUT, this sucks for me.  There's not an easy way to deal with no-show-related issues without bouncing back and forth between the event page and a no-show person's profile, then to their attendance history, then send them a message.  I want to create a util that catches that itch -- a list of RSVPs, the ability to mark people as no-show, a call that can return all their other no-shows, and the ability to send them a form letter listing all their no-shows and asking them to shape up or ship out (in a nice way).

Problem is, these aren't available via the API.

There's been several requests for expanding the attendance and no-show options in the API.  And this is another.  Can we get an ETA on API expansions for attendance and no-show related information?

THANKS
Joe Lippeatt

Hi Joe.

Thanks for your continued interest in this feature. We wish we could implement and push out every requested feature more quickly, but our API team is very resource constrained. We have started development on an infrastructure for v3 methods which should hopefully allow us develop more quickly. On the list for v3 methods are forum discussions and attendance.

Would some of you please post your domain names here so I can see how you are using meetup API for your own websites??

Thank you so much.

Hi ShawnMon,
I just created an iPhone and iPad app that helps administrators take attendance at events, and keeps track of people who no-show,
Check it out and more info at:

In an ideal world the no-show data could easily be updated and saved on Meetup servers.  In an equally ideal world, there would be an option to "email all noshows" to let them know they were counted as deadbeats.

With 1700 members, we struggled with an accessible, usable way to allow event hosts, organizers and the like to view, track and take action on no-shows.  For now we mess with the titles assigned to members to keep track.  It was the only way to make it visible to hosts/organizers at the time that they take action in the RSVP tool - and since the title is accessible through the API it wasn't too difficult to use that information in my "Event List Randomizer" tool which we use to select some people at random to attend events.

I previously posted some shots of the tool but I've not got the time (or interest) to make something generically available.  I have not implemented the bulk actions I wanted: mass move deadbeats to the "No" list, for example.

Managing attendance, specifically no-shows, is a very high priority for me. I'd really like to see the no-show data available via the API... is this coming soon or should people like me be rolling our own solutions?

Attendance lists and attendance taking what I'm actively working on now. It should be available soon.

What you can expect in the first iteration is the ability to do everything you with the attendance tool on the site. You will be able to get a list of attendees of an event and filter by attending, absent attendance status, yes,no rsvp response or "all" and be able query by member name. You will be able to mark a member as attended, absent or a no show. You, the user of the API, will be able to detect the ability to take attendance when querying the 2/events api with the "self" field when "attendance" shows up in the list of actions. I will write up a post on this list with more details when it goes live.

Thanks.

Hi Ron,

Sounds like something that could be useful to us as well. Would be quite happy to help you testing.

I too am working on an app where I can take attendance at the event on a mobile phone. I am doing it as my first project to use node.js. I intend  to use the HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript stack so that it can be used within a browser on any mobile device. It will feature a login restricted to Organizers. Further down the line, I will incorporate the Google Maps api for all members of a group.

Pretty ambitious, I know, so it may take awhile. Especially since I am changing from RubyOnRails as my favored platform, and have a lot to learn. I'll post about my progress; perhaps some of you will help me by trying it out.

I re-started to work on an attendance app and discovered that I was unable to get a list of RSVP's for an event. It seems that the problem is that our group is private. Although I am a co-organizer of the group, I can't get the data. Furthermore, I would like the app to actually be usable by the actual host of an event.

If the group is private, anyone who is a member of the group, regardless of their leadership status, should be able see the rsvp list, just as they can on the site.

Can you tell me what query parameters you are using excluding your private api key?

when I make this api call in the console on an event in my group:
    https://api.meetup.com/ew/rsvps?key=857 . . . 5a633f&sign=true&event_id=92739072&page=20
I get this response:
   "results"=[], . . . "count"=0

hi Ron,

Try using the /2/rsvps API method rather than /ew/rsvps:
http://www.meetup.com/meetup_api/docs/2/rsvps/

The /ew namespace is for our Meetup Everywhere platform, which does not
share event (or other) IDs with the rest of the site.

cheers,
mlc
