at what point does an event status change to "past"?

In the past an event was decided to be over by an arbitrary window of time after an event's start time.

meetup.com now supports user provided end times for events. The default is 180 minutes after start time but hosts/organizers can set this duration up to a maximum of 2 weeks.

Thanks for the quick response. What I would like to do is create a mobile app where I could take attendance at an event. Currently an organizer can use the event tools to mark an RSVP as "Attended", "Didn't Attend", or "No Show", but that can only be done on a "Past Event". There is no API at this point to take the actions available on the Event Tools dialog box. If they don't choose to offer an API for this action, I would have to set a duration time of a minute (or some arbitrary time interval), then pull up the Event Tools Dialog on my mobile phone. The "Checkins" API doesn't really fill the bill.

We have a few open tickets for providing more org-only features, including the same no-show attendance taking orgs can do on the site. This one has not yet been implemented. When it is, we will announce it on this list.

There is a 3rd party iPhone app for taking meetup attendance.  You tap the face of people who are attending and it checkmarks the person.

But as mentioned, you still cannot mark folks as "no-show" via the app or api.  But it does allow you to take attendance quickly and then reconcile your no-shows at your desktop later.

One issue is it doesn't show you the attendance info for past meetups that are a certain age, so you have to rush home to update your noshows.  I've sent an email to the developer and hoping that feature will be added.
