"According to the WHO Poverty is the number cause of ill health in the
world today. It is responsible for the major causes of death in the
developing world and is associated with lack of income, clean water,
food and access to medical services which characterize poor
countries."

As the Director of the Nurses and Midwives Association Nurses &
Midwives of Malawi, she has 40 years experience working as a nurse,
training nurses and advocating on behalf of nurses in Malawi.

She has experienced and seen firsthand the immensely difficult working
conditions that nurses in Malawi face on a daily basis: back to back
24 hour shifts to earn enough money for their families, being the only
nurse for kilometers in rural areas, the lack of basic equipment such
as gloves, and the chronic shortage of staff.

She is a very engaging and passionate speaker and as chair of the
Global Campaign against Poverty Malawi platform, Dorothy Ngoma managed
to mobilise two million people in Malawi in 2007 to campaign against
poverty.

Dorothy is going to talk about:
*What it is like to work in Malawi as a doctor/ nurse/ midwife
*The fight of healthcare workers for better working conditions,
salaries and resources
*How the chronic lack of resources for healthcare in Malawi is
affecting women inMalawi
*She is also going to touch on how freak flooding and more intense
droughts have already affected healthcare workers and patients in
Malawi.

* All healthcare student: medics, nurses, midvies, dentist,
pharmacists are welcome.
* Certificates of attendances will be issued out for use in Student
Portfolios.
* Refreshments provided
* All we simply ask for is a voluntary donation of 50p towards the
running costs.
