Pin your favorite or most important notes to make them easier to find. To pin a note, swipe right over the note, then release. Or go to the note, tap the More button , then tap the Pin button . To unpin a note, swipe right over the note again.

To add a photo or video, tap in a note, then tap the Camera button . Tap Take Photo or Video to create a new photo or video, or Choose Photo or Video to add an existing one. Tap Use Photo or Use Video, or tap Add to add an existing one. You can also scan documents and add them to your notes.

The Notes app lets you lock any note that you want to keep private from anyone else that might use your device. Depending on your device, you can use Face ID, Touch ID, along with a password to lock and unlock your notes.

With Notes on iCloud.com, you can capture a quick thought or save something important for later. You can also view and edit notes you created in the Notes app on any device with Notes turned on in iCloud settings.

i noticed notes completely lost it's search function after the ios 17 upgrade.. doesn't even work on desktop macos sonoma.. even after refreshing the icloud connectivity with notes.. this is not good, heavy user of notes! Is this a bug??

I'm a longtime / heavy Notes + iCloud user, and this is starting to drive me insane. As others have commented, in olden times I could drop a word or phrase into the search box inside notes on macOS / iOS and get every relevant result in moments.

Today however, (macOS Sonoma + iOS 17.0.3) search results in Notes are totally unreliable. For instance, I just searched for my manager's name and it returned a few random notes I took during meetings weeks ago, but not the two notes containing my log of our most recent meetings last week - I had to manually scroll through the list searching for them visually.

I'm in a similar boat in that I noticed recently (as of early December 2023) that searching for a keyword in my notes was only returning a fraction of the results I was expecting on my iPhone 12 and Macbook Air (M1), both with updated software. I keep everything in iCloud (i.e., not saved locally on either device). But it works perfectly if you put quotes around the search term (e.g., "Mike"). Search also seems to work perfectly without quotes on icloud.com. Agree that this is a strange bug and should be fixed.

Same problem. Notes work great on Ipad and iPhone. Able to search on these devices, but when I pull up notes app on Mac, they are all there, but when you search a topic note that include this word or topic none come up. Where as on my phone or iPad all notes with that word come up.

This has been bugging me since I started with Evernote.... On my iPhone, if I open a long note (and yes, some notes are long), the only way I've found to get to the bottom and type new information is grabbing the scroll bar and dragging it.... forever. I have Googled about this and I'm surprised to not have found a solution yet. Is it possible there is no way to have focus be at the bottom of notes when I open them? It's really tedious to have to embark on a scroll adventure each time I want to add a new item to my note! Personally, I think that should be the default behaviour, but if not, at least create a setting or a viable shortcut on mobile devices.

I'm having an issue where, after updating my devices to iOS 13, notes from the Apple Notes app are either not syncing, randomly syncing, or syncing only after a prolonged delay (e.g. days) between my iPhone and iPad. I've tried signing out and back in to iCloud and have removed and reinstalled the Notes app on both devices. I've ensured that the OS on both devices has been updated to the current version. Interestingly, If I have the notes app open on my iPhone, I still get the notification in the dock on my iPad that the notes app is open on my phone, but the notes still fail to sync, or at best, some notes randomly sync hours or days later, between the two devices. I noticed that if I create a note in the notes app through the iCloud website, the note downloads to both my devices immediately, but notes created on my devices fail to upload.

I have had the same problem as everyone - Notes not syncing between my iPhone, iPad, MBA - all with the latest OS. I tried everything recommended and ended transferring all my notes to sit on my iPhone - then deleted all notes out of the iPad and MBA and switched iCloud off for Reminders and Notes on all three devices.

I periodically switched iCloud back on in the iPad and iPhone and attempted to create notes and see if they would sync. They did not. My wife created a note on her phone and shared it with me - and that synced as we both made changes, although it was not instant as it had been prior to the iOS upgrades.

Meaning, go ahead and type your notes as you usually do. But when your devices are close to each other again, use Handoff ( -us/HT209455) to sync those notes. Definitely not ideal but at least it syncs things up.

After losing 2 very important business meeting notes, I have sent the following defect feedback to Apple. Feel free to copy and paste the same feedback below to Apple if you are experiencing the same problem. This is more of a macOS Catalina issue rather than an iOS13 issue, but I have noticed other users are also experiencing Catalina issues in this thread so I hope this post is appropriate.

There is a major defect with the new macOS Catalina (v. 10.15) Notes app. Any new notes or updates to existing notes are not syncing with iCloud. Furthermore, new notes are permanently deleted if the user un-syncs notes by un-ticking the "Notes" option in (Notes -> Accounts -> iCloud)

Finally got Notes syncing from iPhone to iCloud again after a few weeks. Thanks Bidule200 for instructions. When trying the first time, I got stuck because of several "old" notes were hanging in the iCloud and I was not being able to delete them. The Notes web app (using iCloud via web browser) kept crashing on me every time I tried to open it in the web browser.

nikbelikov .. thank you for the procedure. I followed it carefully to a T. Typed notes are now synchronizing swiftly between devices (MBP, iPhone, iPad, iCloud web app). But that's where the good stuff ends.

One day noticed there were MILLIONS of copies of notes made on my iPhone (sometimes many copies of one note, what joy) filling up my various gmails. Found out here (thank you apple support community) that if i go into settings>mail>accounts on my iphone and toggle the 'notes' button to 'off' in each of those accounts, it will stop sending copies to my gmail, huzzah! Also that terrifying warning comes up saying all those notes will be deleted from my phone. Gack.

Before doing that, i wanted to confirm my notes are indeed backing up to my iCloud... but it's kind of unclear what's going on there. If i go to Settings>icloud>Apps using iCloud, 'Notes' is one of the apps using the Cloud, but when i click 'iCloud Backup', it's not one of the apps listed as being backed up to the Cloud.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like your notes are connected to your Gmail account. If you disable notes for Gmail on your iPhone, this will remove associated notes from your iPhone. They will only be accessible from your Gmail account, either through webmail or other devices. Add or remove accounts in Notes on iPhone - Apple Support has more information about removing notes accounts. If you added your Gmail account back to your iPhone at some point, then enabled notes again, any notes that you have on your Gmail account would be added as well.

As far as the iCloud question, when Notes is enabled for iCloud, this automatically syncs your notes between devices. When iCloud is enabled, Notes are not included in your iCloud backup. This guidance from What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support further explains.

I am having the same issue although I am not a developer I am using version 10.11 Beta (15A225f) Notes Version 4.0 (512). I can confirm that I was definitely able to create notes on my macbook before the beta installation. Another strange occurence happened with Notes when I first installed the beta OS, some of my notes duplicated and triplicated. I have already deleted 28 "copies" but have more to delete when I am done comparing to make sure I don't lose any data. I purchased storage and I currently have 142 GB available so I doubt that is an issue. Another thing to point out, I am unable to create a new note using iCloud and On My Mac acccounts.
