We are a Magic 5.64 site. I am looking for any information that others may have regarding AUTO12-A labeling requirements that CLSI has recently published. It appears that labs will be required to use a standardized labeling format in regards to labels content, location of specific data and font size. Labs are required to comply by 4/29/2014.  Are we able to modify our current labels to comply? Any information others might have would be appreciated. Here is a link that my Lab manager gave to me where the new requirements are discussed.

You could open an issue with Meditech to see if they’ve started anything. The key word in the article is the accrediting organizations MAY require compliance with the labeling standard. Meditech is not obligated to create those changes until it IS required. It would be interesting to know if they are at least aware of the recommended standard and whether they’ve started anything.

Hi Philipp,

This was brought to my attention.  I don't think we can change it.  I have opened up a "question" task with our Meditech consultant.  I don't think Meditech was aware of this new standard.

Our site opened a task yesterday to find out where MT was at with this and if they have plans to do anything. I tried to find the actual standards and the only thing I could find was you needed to purchase it from CLSI for $120.

I just got a task updated at Meditech about this.  KB 47727 outlines how these labels need to be set up.

Meditech also has KB 47753 for CS.

I have not read the CLSI standard yet, but from what I can find on other websites, it looks like this is for automation. Would this standard be considered for only automated line, then and not lab general? We do not have an automated line, but I’m wondering if we would have to meet the standard anyway.

Thanks,

My first impression of this standard is that it was written by people who have not worked as phlebotomists ever or at best no time recently.  I have not decided what we are going to do with this.  I definitely do not see the labels as an improvement over our current format.  This must be for some sort of automation which we do not have either.
