We have been Live with eMAR/BMV for several months now. I have been getting very sporadic reports of nurses swearing they scanned a med, saw the barcode display next to the med, but after Saving and Recompiling they find that one of the meds they scanned did not save. At first we were discovering it was because there was an outstanding undocumented dose and their scan went to that time however that doesn't always seem to be the case. I did advise them to be sure all meds are in the "shopping cart" and are checked and to be careful not to accidentally uncheck any. I have opened a task with Meditech.
I have seen no discussion about this on the L, however wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue?

Thanks in advance,

I have also gotten the same type of reports. Mostly from one user that
typically struggles with the computer. But I have also had 1 or 2 from
very good users of the system as well. They are so sporadic and nothing
that you can prove, get your hands around, etc. Makes it very difficult
to troubleshoot or to report. Will be interested in hearing of a
solution.

Hi-

Yes - we have had the same experience that both of you have reported.
We would also love to hear the solution!

Thanks so much for letting me know we are not alone in this complaint. I almost didn't bother to send anything out since I had not seen this mentioned on the L in BMV/eMAR L mails, glad I did now.
I am going to include that 3 other facilities have had the same complaint in my task. I will keep everyone updated.

Magic or C/S, version, and Workstation version?
We worked through a lot of screen/display issues and dropped (briefly) connections to wireless devices when implementing BMV/eMAR over a year ago.
Short list:
1) Update Workstation version to the latest - be sure to test before rolling out to all users - newer has not always been better.
2) Make sure these issues have been reported to Meditech so you can receive the latest DTS'es related to BMV/eMAR - there were quite a few for our Magic 5.61 system.
3) If using wireless devices, don't rule out a dropped connection, even if Meditech didn't close. We identified an issue with a conflict between the wireless devices and wireless scanners where competition for signal created response issues.
4) Hold Meditech's feet to the fire - they can place traps on selected devices if there is a common denominator to identify where the communication issue may be.

All, I have noticed that rapid scanning of multiple different
medications can cause a individual med scan to be missed, as the scans
are not buffered, and the beep tone received is by the scanner itself,
not that fact that the rx has been flagged/checked on the screen. I have
suggested that Meditech adds an additional beep when an rx is check
marked on the scan list, so 2 beeps would be a sign to the nurse a med
had been successfully scanned.

Thanks so much for all the responses I have received so far. This one was very interesting and certainly could be the issue since my reports of meds not saved are when they are giving multiple meds. I have opened a task with Meditech and included all of your names and this particular email in the task, my consultant asked for the sites I was getting responses from. Hope that was ok ....
I'll keep everyone posted.

We have one CS Ministry live with BMV. We have found that this occurs
most often when they are administering "One time" medications that
discontinue 1 minute after they pull the medication from Pyxis. We can
never duplicate the issue in Test, but we have just had eight dts's
delivered into our test environment today. As soon as we get testing
done and move them into Live, I will let you know if they worked.
