I have just a very simple question - can I go in and change either an assessment name or a label name without having to build a whole new assessment? I opened up a task with Meditech, but all they said is that they weren't sure so to go ahead and create a new assessment with the changes. Well, before I go in and create 20 new assessments because nursing wants one word changed to meet standards - I wanted to ask the real pros:)

Hi Kelly,

The only time that an assessment can become corrupted is when making a
change to a query or group response. Adding additional queries also
could cause corruption. I haven't ran across any problems changing a
label name or an assessment name. However, if I did add a label, I would
not add a Repeatable Occurrence.

Thanks,

Kelly:

You cannot edit the Assessment Name in the Intervention Dictionary if
that assessment has every been documented on a patient.

You have to build a new intervention and then name the assessment as you
wish.

Now as far as adding labels or editing labels to exiting cds's, as long
as it is just verbage and does not change the understanding/meaning of
that label, it does not concern me...

For example editing T to Temp would not bother me. But changing T to
Transfer would change the meaning and I would build a new query and copy
the exiting cds and add that new query to the new cds-so as to not
corrupt past data.

Good Luck,

The real question to consider is how your edit will affect data that has
already documented. If you change a name or label, it will affect all data
that has already been documented under that name or label. I would be
cautious with changing labels, EMR ids - anything like that.
