Does anyone store PCA/Epidural keys in Acudose or Pyxis machines? How do
you go about tracking this without getting any dummy medication (the
key) on the patient's bill -as well as track who removed the key?
Thanks so much!

Yes, we do store PCA keys in the pyxis.
We do use a dummy medication for its removal.

We have many things in our Pyxis machines that aren't medications. I'm
not sure about PCA keys, but we do keep the key to the refrigerator lock
box for controlled substances in there (as an override med, so we don't
have to profile it).

The mnemonics for all of these odd items begin with "@" and our Pyxis
engineer wrote something so that anything with an "@" at the beginning
doesn't cross the interface to Pharmacy, but it still shows up on Pyxis
refill lists, and usage reports if you need to track who removed it
when.
