Good morning all!
I'm doing some work with Alberta Health Services. They're running Meditech C/S 5.67. We've got an unusual problem that has stumped all of us. Since this involves a custom NPR report written by the site Meditech hasn't.... been quick to respond. I'm wondering if any of you have come across this problem.

This NPR report looks for HIM reports created using MS Word (2003) and ITS text reports for a specific location and prints them to PDF files placed in a shared folder to be used for downtime processing. The NPR report has been working perfectly for a long time on workstations running Windows XP. It produces individual MS Word HIM reports in PDF and one long multi page ITS text report in PDF.

The organization has been gradually moving over to Windows 7 (Win7) and the report does *not* produce the MS Word HIM reports on workstations running that operating system?!? On Win7 workstations, the report produces the ITS text report perfectly but generates the following Meditech error for each HIM MS Word Report it finds to print for the specific location: Error: MS Word has timed out: <skipping document>.

The MS Word version is exactly the same on both types of workstations (2003). The MSWord folder that's created locally under the Meditech client has the exact same files with the same dates and sizes on both types of workstations. Per KB #47792, we've already uninstalled Word and Meditech (in that order) and reinstalled them (in that order) on a Win7 workstation and that hasn't helped. We tried to print a Word report directly from ITS on a Win7 workstation and we got an error saying we were missing the MS Word 2003 Viewer. We thought, "Ah ha! That's what we're missing!" So we installed it on the Win7 workstation. That resolved the error when running the reports directly from ITS on Win7, but did not resolve the error when running the NPR report!

The NPR report calls this Meditech standard program: %RAD.RES.word.print(^/WRD,@.on.device)

Is anyone aware of a problems related to this standard report and Win7? Is there a different standard program that we should be calling to process MS Word files when running on Win7? We'd love any suggestions.
Thanks so much,

If I were to guess I would say that the NPR code cannot find word as it's installed in a different location in windows 7.
The actual NPR code should be able to confirm/refute this. I would look inside %RAD.RES.word.print to see what it does, it could also be that /WRD feeds the location in so I would look at what that variable contains for value.

Hi all,
Just to follow-up on this, once we upgraded Word the problem I documented below resolved! We tried Word 2007 first (thanks Julie K) and that worked fine. But in the end, we're going to upgrade the consoles running the report to Word 2010 (thanks Andrew V), which works fine too and is more current.

Several of you contacted me directly with suggestions and I *really* appreciate it. The L rocks!
Thanks so much everyone,
Bev
