Hi Folks,
Does anyone give their staff the “Quick Add Non-Formulary”(PHA.DRUG.ee.quick) drug dictionary menu item? We’re looking for the best way to allow a pharmacist to enter an order for a drug we may have just acquired, but do not have a mnemonic in meditech for. Using our “NF” designated mnemonic does not allow the drug name to flow to the Orders or EMR’s Medications panel. Label comments are not in the provider’s face enough like they are for nurses on the eMAR (plus it shows the edited rx.id field on the eMAR).
Considering that I’m the only one at our site that enters new mnemonics, tests them in test, and then creates them in our live pha drug dictionary, I’m contemplating training them on the quick add non-formulary routine. Then I can inactivate those as we create real codes in the drug dictionary the next business day or two when I’m here or free enough to get to it.
If you have another workflow I’d be glad to hear it.
Thanks!

We enter all NF drugs as a full drug dictionary entry with a NF rule and a NF CDS attached (mostly for a patient’s own meds). That way, we get full interaction and allergy checking. If I am not here to enter the drug, then they enter under a dummy entry of NF and let me know to add the drug and switch over the order to the real entry once I see the e-mai.

We do the same as Charlie.
Could you expand a little on the NF rule and NF CDS for the home med full dictionary entries?
Thanks
