Hello,

We have been discussing a way to document a patients code status and
have it flow to the Nursing Status board.

This enhancement came from a previous release - we are Magic 5.61. Has
anyone done anything with this enhancement? If so, how?

THANKS!

This enhancement came from a previous release - we are Magic 5.61.  Has anyone done anything with this enhancement?  If so, how?

General Description
This enhancement introduces an optional MIS parameter, Patient Resuscitation
Status. If defined, it will enable a patient's resuscitation status to appear
in the patient header at the top of the screen in Clinical Review, RXM,PWM,NUR
and POM. The resuscitation status will display in red colored text below the
patient name to ensure users can quickly and easily access the information.

We are planning to use this in January.
MD Completes the Order form. Nursing Documents the status via an
intervention in NUR

Intervention: -Code Status/Limitations of therapy

CDS Has: 2 queries
Code Status:
Date Form Completed:

Code Query is a group response
Mnemonic Responses

FULL Full Code/ACLS
LIM See Limited Order Sheet
NO No Resuscitation/DNR DNI
NS Not Specified by MD

PCI section Created that displays this easily for the Docs

Hope that Helps

We are Magic 5.61. We just use the code status query -- which is documented
on the Admin Data screen (transcribed from the doctor's order; we don't have
CPOE up yet). The query is in one of the fields of the NUR Status Board. The
fact that it's parameterized isn't important to this method. This was one of
our most popular "tweaks" to the SB.

We are doing this as well but I have a challenge (I recently posted
something to the L on this). What happens when the patient gets
discharged and then readmitted in a couple of days? I've found that
when patient gets discharged, that 411 in PCI stays there until it's
updated. If that update doesn't happen until a couple of days into the
2nd admission, then the OLD code status will still appear and that might
be inappropriate for the new admission. Is there a way around this that
I'm missing? Because of this 'glitch', I haven't attached this 411 to
any PCI menus. It does, however, communicate on our status board as
just another query that we've pulled over, not anything that is
parameter driven like showing the Code Status on the Process Flowsheet.

Any suggestions on how to make this code status 411 be reliably accurate
from visit to visit? I'd love to be able to block out data from that
CDS that was documented on a PREVIOUS admission. Any brilliant ideas?

Hi all,

We are in the midst of reviewing our nursing documentation and we
tackled this issue with the following considerations and limitations.

1. We consider all patients upon admission in Full Status even if during
the previous admission - how recent this may be - the patient was in no
or limited code.

2. We considered a code status change an order which must be entered as
such in OE Meditech ... we are hereby aligning ourselves with POM where
physicians will enter this order directly.

3. We are aware that OE queries cannot be placed on NUR Status Board;
therefore, we have placed this query on an intervention which gets
completed once per shift (we did consider the time laps) which recalls
the Order Entry query values specifying the code limitations.

We make all patients FULL CODES on admission, until there is a written
order.

We use a leveled NUR Intervention for the different levels of code
status.

On our OE ADMN Data screen, we use an attribute to call a custom report
that lists the patients code status.

When the doctor writes a new code status order, we do not enter this
into OE, we update the leveled intervention and that updates OE ADMN
DATA screen and any census reports with the code status on it.

See attached files/reports for examples, Magic 5.62

OECODE2 CODE STATUS: SAME 63
