Is it possible to tell an NPR Report to duplex (the printer has a duplexer on it)? We are Magic 5.62.

If so, how would this be accomplished?

Can a 2nd identical printer be setup that defaults all jobs to duplex?

PRINTER123 - print regular
PRINTER123D - prints to same printer123, but duplexes all jobs

Don't know if this works for Meditech, but it works in most other apps.
I'd be curious myself to know if this works.

We have several of our printers that are set up in this fashion (Meditech
C/S) and it works just peachy.

Dunno. I'm not an FST. <grin>

I think it has something to do with printer trays and the driver setup on
the print server (IE, set up a duplicate printer driver, name it with the *D
name, and tell the driver that it prints duplex in the options).

Just a guess.

Alison: This is off the Meditech website:

Duplex Printing to a HP LaserJet printer (double sided printing)

There is a capability to print information on both sides of a piece of
paper. This is sometimes referred to as "duplex" printing. It can be
done by sending certain escape sequences to the printer.

The command which sets up the printer to do duplex printing is the
following which can be entered in the FOOTNOTE section of a report:

AL PRINT D(27)_"&l1S"^!

The character after the & is a lowercase L. To then return the printer
to normal single sided functionality, the following FOOTNOTE should be
entered right after the one above:

AL CLOSE.UP D(27)_"&l0S"^!

Meditech uses the Tray command, here is a copy of one of mine used for duplexing...
;duplex print code (turns duplexer on)
;tray changed 4/18/07 for move see # 369216
;tray (2)=manual override
;tray (3)=printer tray 1
;tray (4)=printer tray 2
D(27)_"&l1S"^!,
%Z.switch.tray(4)

This is called in an AL START tray macro.

Note to all, do not assume this will work. Make sure your printer is capable of duplexing.
HP series printers specifically name them HP4300DN (duplex, network) So if you are testing on a 4300n you are wasting your fingertips :)
