All,

The "Orders In Hold-Queue" interface enables Meditech to receive Orders from other systems. Then we can send results back through another interface with their OrderID (creating a bi-directional HL7 interface).

Does anyone have this working in a way they would recommend to others??? We have had several reference site calls and they all say, "Do not use it. It creates more problems and people refuse to use it."

Thanks,

We would be interested in this as well.  We will be using Summit Provider Exchange for our bi-directional interface.  Summit PE has a hold-queue feature as well.  We would be interested in knowing if anyone is using Summit PE and/or if they are using the Orders In Hold-Queue in MT.  Doesn't seem necessary to use them both but interested in what others may be doing or experiencing.

thanks, Toni

Hi Kevin,

Back when I implemented the OE Hold Queue for C/S I really left it with the same experience as what you are hearing from everyone else. “Don’t use it”. The way it was originally designed, while great in theory, doesn’t match any sort of clean workflow for anyone involved(Registrars, Lab Staff, MR staff). I tried multiple different configurations in an attempt to get the best bang for our buck after we purchased it(Don’t create new MRN if 5/5 Identifiers match… Create a new Identifier if 5/5 match…etc). What it came down to is we didn’t have control over the demographic detail coming from our OV software. So while we disallowed special characters in Names(O’Conner/Oconner), they may not. So if the OV sent the Last Name separate than how it was labeled in MT it would end up failing or creating a new duplicate MRN causing us issues on the backend.  We really couldn’t get it to work 100% of the time with any sort of guaranteed confidence; our end users began to recognize that and it went from there.

I was able to go back and implement the OE Hold Queue successfully using Summit’s Provider Exchange product. What it did for us provide users/lab staff with the demographic control to modify the demographic detail(5/5 matching criteria) prior to it hitting Meditech. Think of it as a control/gateway….You get to leverage the OE Hold Queue(which adds functionality to MT) correctly and you get an Interface queue with a front-facing GUI that gives your end-users confidence in the Hold Orders that are actually coming across.

I’d be glad to talk to you more about it if you had any additional questions.

We tried and tried, but we wanted to be able to have the incoming order create a pending appointment in SCH, and it will, but only after it creates a duplicate MRN. After much frustration we were told that it wasn’t meant to work with SCH, and we gave up.

We still have a network partner with whom we would like to exchange orders/results, but we won’t get it done with the OE Hold Queue alone.

We would like to look at Summit’s Provider Exchange, but just haven’t had the opportunity. Since this project isn’t regulatory, it doesn’t receive much of our attention.

Thanks,

Toni,

It is my understanding that Provider Exchange requires an OE orders interface of some sort, I think there is another besides the OE Hold Queue, but not positive.

Hi,  it is my experience that there are workflow issues with the OE Hold Q for the reasons stated with duplicates.      What I found was if you can get Meditech to sell you their vanilla “OV Orders Inbound Interface”,(Not the OE Hold Q)  and their ADT Inbound interface you then have a chance to make this workflow pretty seamless with Summit’s Provider Exchange tool.  If you use the OE Hold Q with Provider Exchange, it gets the job done but an extra touch point possibly depending how you set up the automation.

The Provider Exchange does have a very robust user front end so you can hold the order, write notes against those pending orders and release them based on rules or manually,  let’s say after you scheduled them.  The most flexible I’ve seen.    Consider it a “work list”  that can be automated or not depending on how you implement it.

I would be more than happy to speak to you more about this if you like.

Good Luck!

Joyce
