All,
The "Orders In Hold-Queue" interface enables Meditech to receive Orders from other systems. Then we can send results back through another interface with their OrderID (creating a bi-directional HL7 interface).
Does anyone have this working in a way they would recommend to others??? We have had several reference site calls and they all say, "Do not use it. It creates more problems and people refuse to use it."
Thanks,

We would be interested in this as well. We will be using Summit Provider Exchange for our bi-directional interface. Summit PE has a hold-queue feature as well. We would be interested in knowing if anyone is using Summit PE and/or if they are using the Orders In Hold-Queue in MT. Doesn't seem necessary to use them both but interested in what others may be doing or experiencing.
thanks, Toni

We tried and tried, but we wanted to be able to have the incoming order create a pending appointment in SCH, and it will, but only after it creates a duplicate MRN. After much frustration we were told that it wasn’t meant to work with SCH, and we gave up.
We still have a network partner with whom we would like to exchange orders/results, but we won’t get it done with the OE Hold Queue alone.
We would like to look at Summit’s Provider Exchange, but just haven’t had the opportunity. Since this project isn’t regulatory, it doesn’t receive much of our attention.

Toni,
It is my understanding that Provider Exchange requires an OE orders interface of some sort, I think there is another besides the OE Hold Queue, but not positive.

Hi, it is my experience that there are workflow issues with the OE Hold Q for the reasons stated with duplicates. What I found was if you can get Meditech to sell you their vanilla “OV Orders Inbound Interface”,(Not the OE Hold Q) and their ADT Inbound interface you then have a chance to make this workflow pretty seamless with Summit’s Provider Exchange tool. If you use the OE Hold Q with Provider Exchange, it gets the job done but an extra touch point possibly depending how you set up the automation.
The Provider Exchange does have a very robust user front end so you can hold the order, write notes against those pending orders and release them based on rules or manually, let’s say after you scheduled them. The most flexible I’ve seen. Consider it a “work list” that can be automated or not depending on how you implement it.
I would be more than happy to speak to you more about this if you like.
Good Luck!
