We have been having an issue since we went live on 9/15 with our Fill List missing labels in PHA after a print. The labels will just stop printing towards the 2/3 into the print; only half the label will print and any label after that won't print.

We temporarily work around this by creating several batches by omitting the carts. We have been back and forth with Meditech about the issue but nothing resolved yet. At this point we do not believe the custom labels are incorrectly formatted, as syntax wise they are fine. We have Datamax M Class printers but with FARGO drivers attached in Meditech printer setup. We have been told that we should not use FARGO but use the default Datamax. We took out FARGO from our DC label printer to test, but now the information won't fit on one label. The Meditech font does display now on the label. We tried adjusting the positioning of the print in the actual printer but this has not resolved that in particular.

Has anyone had print issues with Datamax and in what way were they resolved?

Thank you very much.

Are you Magic or C/S? If your C/S how is the UNV setup for this printer and what version of driver are you using? What is the exact model of Datamax printer and what version of firmware do they have?

I had an issue with the Datamax EX2's (with internal NIC's only) where the print job would halt after printing 3-5 labels in one print stream and would no longer ping. It would fall off the network! If I printed from the Windows Driver it never had this issue! (this is a critical point) If I printed it through the Datamax escape sequences it was very reproducible but sometimes would take a few shots to make it happen. It was never resolved by Datamax! I sent Datamax my program and the Hex Dumps and they agreed it was error free (since it worked on an I Class 4208 that furthered that point) as you describe. This even happened with the standard lab specimen labels so I felt pretty confident that it wasn't anything I was doing wrong.

So we sent them back to get another model. At the time the Datamax Engineer I worked with did tell me the firmware in the Ex2 was similar to the M Class and had just been updated. I have used tons of Datamax E and I class printers in PHA, LAB, RAD, and ADM... and never seen anything like this. Had I not had 10 printers ordered to verify it was happening on all of them I also would have wrote it off as one printer with issues. We did firmware updates - etc but nada!

To make matters worse we didn't find this issue in first round of testing since we were only printing one or two labels. Everytime it happened in testing the users wrote it off. When the volume of LIVE hit us the problem became VERY clear! We also had some of the same model of (Ex2) printers without the Datamax internal NIC and these printers NEVER had this problem!

If the printer stops pinging without losing power its likely the same issue... don't hesitate to shoot me a note! If it never loses the network sorry for the long read :-)

Thanks,
David Sellars

Sorry, just curious. What did you go live with on 9/15?
We are about to go live with Magic 5.64 on Tuesday.
