Setting Up PPII as a Service on Windows Terminal Services
PPII needs to be setup as a service on the Windows 2000 terminal server for it to work.
Below are directions are how to do this:
1. Check to see if the VMAGICPPII executable existed in the Print Folder. Which can be found under: C:\\Program files\\Meditech\\print
2. While signed on as the Administrator, go to the DOS Prompt. You should see something like: C:\Desktop\...\Administer
3. Change the user to install. Do to this, at the Dos prompt enter: CHANGE USER /INSTALL
4. Change directories until you get to the following path C:\Program Files\MEDITECH\Print
5. Then type VMAGICPPII.exe -i (note the spacing..this installs the Service)
6. When in the Administrative Services screen, you should see a service called MAGIC Print Manager. The service should start automatically, if it does not it can be started manually. Right click (under the MAGIC Print Manger) and go to Properties
7. Click on the Log On tab
8. Change the pointer from "Local System Account" to "This Account".
9. Testing in the past found that a general user, like Printer or MEDITECH, is sufficient to have the "This Account" pointer with no password.
*** Note***
If the Vmagic print Manager fails or you encounter an error when attempting to start the service, change the pointer back to Local System Account

The "Create Global Objects" User Right (SeCreateGlobalPrivilege)
The "Create global objects" user right (SeCreateGlobalPrivilege) is a Windows 2000 security setting that was first introduced in Windows 2000 SP4. The user right is required for a user account to create global objects in a Terminal Services session. Note that users can still create session-specific objects without being assigned this user right. By default, members of the Administrators group, the System account, and Services that are started by the Service Control Manager are assigned the "Create global objects" user right.
Troubleshooting
*
Some Programs May Not Work Correctly After You Install Windows 2000 SP4
After you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) on your computer, some programs may not work correctly. This issue may occur in situations when the user account that is used to run the program does not have the "Create global objects" user right.
To resolve this issue, identify the user account that is used to run the program, and then assign the "Create global objects" user right to that user account. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Local Security Policy.
2. Expand Local Policies, and then click User Rights Assignment.
3. In the right pane, double-click Create global objects.
4. In the Local Security Policy Setting dialog box, click Add.
5. In the Select Users or Group dialog box, click the user account that you want to add, click Add, and then click OK.
6. Click OK.
Note To troubleshoot situations where you cannot determine the user account that is used to run the program and where you want to verify that the symptoms that you are experiencing are caused by the user right, assign the "Create global objects"" user right to the Everyone group, and then start the program. If the program works correctly, the issue that you are experiencing may be caused by the new security setting.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Meditech anomely
When users connect to our system using Terminal Services and set up
their default printer driver (most use HPLASERIIII) they have to set it
up each time. They go to Options, printer setup on the old user
interface and on the new interface they click on the Meditech symbol and
go to Workstation Menus, options, printer setup. When they log out of
Meditech and TS and go back in they have to do it all over again. I
thought it kept the settings once you left but I cannot remember. I
believe other users do not have this problem. Has anyone else seen this
problem? Does anyone have any idea to fix this problem?
