Hello Everyone,

We are MT 6.x and I have been writing many reports lately out of RD.  I am having a little problem with creating rules in RD to pull query information, group responses etc.  My problem is that I am not sure when to use a Do Loop and some of the other fancy foot work that goes along with all that.  Does anyone have any documentation that they would be willing to share that explains when and how to use these features when building a report that they might be willing to share?  I did go to the RD Class but that’s been quite some time ago and if it made sense back then I certainly don’t remember it now.  So anything anyone might have to offer to help clear up some of this mystery would be greatly appreciated.

Chandra, at the upcoming MUSE conference, not only will there be training on macros, but you can take RD refresher courses too. We have two of the best instructors! See the sessions below …

Macro Writing:  Creating Global Programs that Can Be Accessed from Anywhere

Join leading report writers as we demonstrate and educate you on the best practices for developing global macros that make key data accessible to all MEDITECH applications. During the session, we will create utility macros that access common patient information such as NUR Documentation, LAB Results, PHA Orders, RAD/ITS Exams, and OE Orders. These macros can then be called from any NPR Report without the need for fragments, leaving you to feel complete and as one with your MEDITECH data.

The session will cover topics such as:

·         Do loops and other Magic programming syntax

·         Macros as an alternative to fragments

·         MV Arrays

Presenter:  Brian Schmit, Interface People, LP

Roll Out the Welcome M-AT for MEDITECH 6.x and M-AT Report Writer!

If your facility is migrating, or has migrated, to MEDITECH 6.x, you know this isn’t the same old Magic or Client Server. Significant changes in data structures and reporting come with the 6.x territory. Join us for an educational workshop detailing the new structures, new reporting tools, and terminology changes between NPR and M-AT. Whether you’re an experienced MEDITECH user or new to MEDITECH, this workshop will help you understand and create M-AT reports in no time.

Topics:

·         Intro to MEDITECH’s 6.0 Report Designer

·         6.X+ modules

·         Shared data between Client Server and the 6.X systems

·         Data definitions and Terminology changes

·         Creating a 6.0+ Report

·         Selecting objects, indexes, fields

·         Output layout

·         Selection criteria

·         Translating and running

·         Building and using report rules

Instructor:  Brian Schmit, Interface People

Report Designer Tips and Tricks

Save some keystrokes and retire early! This year’s NPR and RD tips will show how to save time and keystrokes (and mouse clicks) in both tools, including:

·         Report Designer navigation shortcuts.

·         Converting specifications to code with file conversion and search and replace.

·         Converting CDS data to NPR code with an NPR report, no more query typos!

·         Intervention independent NUR/PCS reports that are still speedy.

·         Force reports directly to a printer, preview, or download.

Presenter:  Joe Cocuzzo is the Vice President of the Report Writing Services division of Iatric Systems.

I really can’t point you to resources on Rules for 6.0, besides maybe the Meditech website.

To be honest, I’ve had minimal exposure and experience with 6.0 Report Designer, but I’m thinking an Intermediate to Advance report writer would have no trouble, either teaching the Report Designer structure of rules.

Seems the DO While constructs mirror closely to how many subscripts a data structure may have.

So, for instance, if you are using the Discharge Date index in Abstracting, and want to get your CPT codes for that patient, you’d have a total of 3 Nested DO Loops.

First, the date to seed and loop on the Discharge Date Index.

Next, you’d need a DO Loop to grab the patient URN for that discharge date.

Finally, you’d need a DO Loop to traverse the sequence numbers for your CPT codes.

If you are used to emulating indices in NPR report writer (Client Server or Magic), I’m guessing writing DO Loop constructs in Report Designer would be quite similar.

Yeah, those faint of heart in creating macros in NPR 5.64 and Client Server may have quite the learning curve.

But I’m guessing, if you are fairly proficient implementing DO loops and emulating Indices in Magic or Client Server,

Rules in Report Designer should be pretty much a breeze !!

Okay, maybe not a breeze but more a calm cool evening,

Good luck with finding resources,

I’m sure they will continue to become more ubiquitous as 6.0 moves forward,
