We are currently in the process of upgrading our OS to 8.1 or better and our application to Magic 5.5.
Our facility is purchasing new printers and would like to put Multifunction printers in all the nursing stations. Does anyone have any experience with HP's M3027 (Multifunction printer)? It is not on the Meditech supported printer list.
Does anyone have any comments positive or negative regarding the use of Multifuntion printers on the wards?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

We have a problem printing labels to our Xerox's. They tend to jam and print incorrectly.

We use Richo/Lanier/Gestetner MFPs they are all the same hardware. I
recommend the 45 page per minute class.
Lease them, with a service contract and toner included on a cost per copy
basis.
They work very well.
We are running CS 554
In a Citrix environment do not use anything beyond the PCL mini-driver.
Hope this helps,
Al

We have been using Ricoh multifunctional printer with Meditech Magic 5.4
for several years now. We converted to OS 8.1 and 5.5 as of last
September and there were no compatibility issues. The printers emulate
an HP4 and we configure the printers in OPS to think that they are HP4.
They have treated us well, save on space and combine faxing, copying,
printing and scanning. The downside is that if the device is down - you
lose your printer, fax, copier and scanner until the unit is repaired or
replaced. It is the definition of the phrase "all your eggs in one
basket". So far the space and cost savings have far outweighed the
potential downtime.

Hope this helps.

Charlene,

I would caution you that many of the new HP Multifunction
Printer/Scanner/Fax/Toaster Oven's do NOT include many of the standard
fonts... Per the HP Tech support guy I spoke with this will be the wave
of the future in an effort to cheapen the product lines.

For example the HP 3390/3380's we have do not contain the full set of
PCL fonts that previous HP Laserjets contained. Windows based printing
is not affected because all rendering happens via the Wndows based
Driver; however for non-windows based applications, such as Meditech,
font related issues can be a real headache. The text will print on top
of itself or characters will print outside of the columns within tables.
Root cause: The garbled and misaligned text occurs when the expected
font is not available. HP support recommends a separate Memory Chip to
fix the problem so I'd plan on getting any available memory chips
upfront with your purchase regardless of the model. Or just stay clear
of them!

I've seen several responses to your question which relate to the larger
Ricoh copiers and I too have had good luck with those...

FYI, we have NOT had consistent good luck with the Ricoh printers
printing Access eforms forms. -Joyce.

Hi Charlene,

As long as the printer supports the PCL5 pritner language, which *most* HP laser printers do, you should be fine. I've also used Canon, Toshiba, and Brother multifunctions without any issues, even though they aren't "supported".

Mike
