I have a request to create a report that will randomly select x number of employee social security numbers for random drug screening.  I actually do not have the slightest idea as to how to write anything in NPR that would randomly pick a field every time it is ran.  Does anyone out there have any type of report that would do something like this they would be willing to share?  I would appreciate any help with this.

Check out our 2004 NPR Tips and Tricks on our web site.  I show a random sample report for employees and one for patients.

You can always use $RN in a macro. For example:

$RN(100)^X,

This assigns a random number between 0 and 99 to the variable X. The argument doesn't need to be 100 - it could be anything - though I think there's an upper limit. But that's just a start. Selecting a random sample from any population can get fairly complicated.

Brandon – try this report.  I recently had a similar request and this was the response.  The macro contains the randomization logic:

It's been a while since I used the MEDITECH PP system but there used to be a standard report to pull random accounts...
