IF you are using the query on a report template then you should be able
to bold it with the change attribute function.

Use <shift> + F4, to set attributes, <rt ctrl> Bold and F12

Hi,
I did check with Meditech, who said it can't be done, but want to
confirm it with the "L"...is it possible to bold the query text? The
users who print departmental reports said they would be easier to read
if the query itself could be bolded to distinguish it from the response.

Marcia, not sure where you are located, but if it's near Newport, RI,
MUSE
is offering a number of pertinent educational presentations on CPOE (see
below). This is in addition to a CPOE peer group meeting where users
will
share their solutions.

Preparing for CPOE
Organization: Southcoast Hospitals Group, New Bedford, MA

Abstract: The presentation chronicles our "Road to CPOE", outlining
advanced clinical implementations including EDM, RXM, NUR, EPS (V2
Allergies
and Med Rec.) and PWM. It also highlights our physician engagement
plan,
marketing and training process for implementing PWM. This all lays the
groundwork for CPOE implementation which we will be undertaking in
summer
2011.

CPOE - The Journey Continues
Organization: Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana, KY

Abstract: In 2005, Harrison Memorial Hospital dreamed of being
paperless
with physician orders and began the process of helping their physician
adapt
to an electronic patient record. This process began with the hospital
participating in the choice of a physician practice management solution
for
6 physician practices. Then in 2007 the contracts were signed to move
forward with the PCM module with four its components. In June of 2008
the
new physician desktop, physician workload management and clinical review
went live and then in November 2004 a group of brave physicians went
live
with CPOE. Come and hear our story concerning this implementation.
What
things went well and what we would have done differently. We presented
this
at the Central Region in November just after going live, but have
updated
this presentation with happenings since then. We have 17 physicians
currently LIVE on inpatient physician ordering and have plans to move
live
with Ambulatory in the near future.

Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) - Tips for a Successful
Implementation
Organization: Beacon Partners

Abstract: Implementing CPOE is one of the many challenges facing
healthcare organizations today. The impact of the work flow changes
ripple
throughout the organization. The session will provide lessons learned
from
the field for implementing CPOE using Provider Order Management (POM) by
describing various approaches to this process. A description of
suggested
team and governance structures, order set development and the impact on
physician satisfaction, training and support options and techniques to
promote effective physician involvement will be discussed.
After attending this session, participants will learn:
. Governance structures to support a successful implementation
. Strategies for order set development
. Options for training and support structures
. Methods to promote physician involvement

Physician Care Manager (CPOE, MEDREC, eRX, and PDOC) - Navigating
Development and Optimization Opportunities
Organization: HealthNET Systems Consulting, Inc.

Abstract: From maximizing reimbursement to achieving clinical
excellence
in the organization, MEDITECH's Physician Care Manager (PCM) is a suite
of
products with incredible benefit to the organization if implemented
properly. Automating processes, designing documentation that is
streamlined
and efficient for physicians and assuring data flow between nursing
staff
and physicians in both the ED and the in-patient setting are all crucial
in
developing an optimal system. Come see how your organization can
develop
PCM, maximize quality, accomplish Joint Commission goals, and develop
the
system to meet Meaningful Use criteria to accomplish financial and
clinical
excellence

This session will cover the necessary steps of planning and selection,
the
importance of standardization, and implementation strategies. Key
topics
will include: Documentation methodology, nomenclature, computerized
physician order entry (CPOE), ePrecribing (eRX), on-line medication
reconciliation (MEDREC), and physician on-line documentation (PDOC).
Technology, clinician/physician buy in, and optimal data flow will also
be
discussed.

If have gone from version 55 to 56, could you share the good, the bad,
and
the ugly? We are at 5.5.4 and are evaluating moving to 5.6.4. We use
MPM
which definitely flavors the stew a tad. PCM is in the works.

I have chosen not to set up anything like this. Instead, at the time of
entry, you just put the charting unit. One thing to do if you go this
route is to change all of the order sizes to 1 or else if you are
administering a cream which comes in a 60 gm tube, it will default the
amount given to 60 applications. We are still working in Magic 5.61 test
(have not gone live yet). I would think that CS would have the charting
unit feature, but not sure.

Hello L : We are CS 5.5.5 and are beginning to work on EMAR and
BMV. Pharmacy has opthalmic and otic solutions set up in the drug
dictionary with dosing units of drops (based on a strength of 15
drops/ml). Our MDI's are set up with dosing units of puffs (based on a
strength of X puffs/Y gm). Our topical bulk meds (ointments, creams,
lotions, etc) are set up in the drug dictionary with Zero dose and a
Dose instruction. Has anyone come up with any better setup in their
drug file for these multidose medications to enhance the appearance of
the EMAR?

First of all, let me give appreciation to Sandra Clark at morehead.org,
who provided most of this to me. Three caveats - we are Magic 5.63, this
is a calculation assuming the admit date/time is the same as birth
date/time, and lastly, I don't claim to have a full understanding of the
logic, I've just verified it works. I created a test for the hours since
birth to apply this calculation to.

Here it is (be aware the wordwrap in Outlook has messed with some of
it);

Charting unit works great until EDM/RXM/POM. Then the charting unit
becomes obsolete and useless.
I had to edit a ton of bulk type meds, eye drops, creams, inhalers etc
to: 1 DROP/DOSE, 1 APPLICATION/DOSE, 1 PUFF/ACTN etc etc. Charting
unit does not exist in POM.. At lest not in Magic 5.62

Medtitech has this habit of never completing the circle. Functionality
is never consistent across applications and modules. Very frustrating
!! Not to mention an awful lot of work for the end user.

Just my 3 cents !!

Has anyone come up with any better setup in their
drug file for these multidose medications to enhance the appearance of
the EMAR?

Hi,
Meditech has been changing the name of the product former known as
Focus to C/S 6.0 and now wants to call it AT (Advanced Technology).
Some of you old folks (me included) will remember the PC-AT that IBM
released in the 80s. What an improvement it was! Anyway, we're
running a poll on what Meditech should call their latest development at
http://focusblog.iatric.com/#poll . Now can anyone guess which choice
I selected?

Hello Phil -
We are using Static IPs for the devices. The Desktop versions of the
TC
connect to the citrix server and Meditech sees the IP addresses of the
servers. With the laptop versions, some get assigned the terminal id
associated with the server and the rest come up with the unknown telnet.

Mike,

We migrated to Terminal Server not too long ago and had similar
issues with the unknown telnet issue like you described. Are you using
DHCP to dole out IP's or are they static? If you are using DHCP, make
sure the name you give the device in Windows matches the name you give
the device in Meditech OPS. Also make sure you set the model to WINTERM,
Negotiate Remote Read is set to Y and adjust EOL handling to N and MAGIC
server to N. The most important thing is to ensure the names match, case
and all. Leave the remaining fields, IP..., Hardware..., Operating...,
Enable Telnet..., and use MIS User...., all blank.

Thx,

Phil

Hello All -
We just finished doing an upgrade to our Allscripts ED servers and
installed a new Citrix farm and we have found some issues with the new
Wyse
thin clients. We have put out Meditech as a published application for
their
convenience. It seems that when a user tries to access their hotkey
(Shift
- F12), Meditech loses focus and the hotkey menu does not appear. It
does
work on a full desktop though. We have also had an anomaly that some of
our
wireless Wyse terminals will get unknown telent client when connecting
to
Meditech. We are using the Wyse V90L as a desktop and the X90L as a
mobile
client. Both are WinXPe. Any information/assistance would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks
Mike.

Thx,

Phil

I found the Citrix Hotkey menus and set to none, but still no menu.
I

Hello All -
We just finished doing an upgrade to our Allscripts ED servers and
installed a new Citrix farm and we have found some issues with the new
Wyse
thin clients.

Thanks
Mike.

You need to use pha.rx.audit.trail. Here is a sample report for txns
per day that is sorted by RPH. The detail line is not printed, so it
only shows the total transactions. If you want per hour, you can use a
computed field that is based on the audit.trail.time. Something like
this should work:

DAT=FREE
JFY=L
LEN=2
VAL=@audit.trail.time$2

I have attached two reports - one by hour and one by pharmacist to get
you started.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] E-Signing of Telephone Orders Question
Message-ID: <4AD58838.C...@pvhs.org>
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Hi,

We went live with e-signing of telephone orders last week and have a few
questions. We are a magic site.

1. What do you do if orders are entered with an incorrect order source?
Do you make the receiving department (lab, rad, pha) amend the orders?
What about patient care orders that interface to the NUR module? Since
the order interfaced, you can not edit it in OE and there is no place to
edit it in NUR. Meditech is telling us there is no way to change an
order source on NUR type orders.

2. How are you queuing Telephone Orders that result in a Pyxis Override?
For us, when a med is pulled from Pyxis using an override it
automatically creates an order in Meditech allowing the nurse to
document on the MAR. The ordering Physician defaults to the last
ordering physician and we have set the source to default to Telephone.
This is causing some frustration with the physicians, since not all
Pyxis overrides were from a telephone order and they often queue to an
incorrect physician. We may look at asking pharmacy to use a limited
edit to amend the source and physician when reviewing the overrides, but
this will be a huge increase in work.

Thanks for any suggestions you have! Beth

We are a Magic 5.61 site in Ohio. I was wondering if anyone has started
working on the billing requirement to place the NDC number on all Ohio
Medicaid billing? If you have, I would like to hear how you are
handling this new requirement. Thank you.

Thanks Joe. We are magic so I go with Steve's $T program conversion. It
is interesting that there is no Z program for this.

For C/S you do not have $L.TO.U string available, so you use @Tr.l2u

Macro:

Description:
Convert (translate) string from lower to upper case.

Check out KB 17684:

Recently a hospital asked us if it was possible to print their data in
UPPER CASE. Their data was entered into their system in Mixed Case
rather than UPPER CASE. Unfortunately, there is no Z program that will
convert Mixed Case data to UPPER CASE data. Rather, you will need to
use a $T program named $L.TO.U.

Let's assume that the field that you need to convert to UPPER CASE is
called "name". In a computed field, the syntax would be:

VAL=@name~$L.TO.U

Note that the "~" precedes the $T program call.

As an example, before the conversion the field "name" was printing:

Adams,Scott

After the conversion, it now prints:

ADAMS,SCOTT

To convert from upper to lower case, use ~$U.TO.L

I have the following computed field in my NPR:

The @reserved is in lowercase in Meditech. How can I convert it to

Hello!
We are magic 5.61.
I have an E-type query NURPTHXCOM in our nursing assessment. I am trying
to pull the typed-in word wrapped response into an npr report written in
NUR.FD DPM. (header for a flowsheet report)
I have tried several examples from the Meditech knowledge base and the
"L" for printing multiple query responses but I can't get anything to
print - most the time it crashes. I can't find any computed field
code/LC code specific for Type-E queries. If anybody has the code to do
this, I would greatly appreciate it if you could please share it!!
TIA!

I would guess that some of you folks have dealt with this issue

We didn't have a conflict with other software so much as people liked
the old colors and didn't want to use the new ones. That pretty much
explains why, beyond still giving them access to the older version, we
did not go out of our way to change anything.

We just "accidentally" discovered a known Meditech PHA problem that you
may want to look into. We are C/S and use Administration Billing. While
testing a DTS for our upcoming upgrade, we discovered that Admin Billed
IV's were being auto credited when an edit was made to their rates. We
then verified that this is happening in our current live system as well,
resulting in significant lost charges. We reported this to Meditech, and
of course they have a fix - VM/PHA #6309. If you are in the same
situation, you may want to look into this:

DTS:

VM/PHA #6309

Description:

Edit IV Rate produces incorrect charging on Billing inquiry

Release:

5.56 - #296

5.57 - #312

5.6 - #2075

5.64 - #739

6.0

6.04 - #820

6.05 - #133

6.1

6.11 - #88

Previously, the Edit IV Rate Routine did not function properly for
locations
which are defined as ADMIN Billing. The system was incorrectly auto
credit
doses and display this information on the Billing Inquiry.

This has been corrected.

Now when using the Edit IV Rate on an Rx for a patient in an Admin
Billing
location which results in a change in dispensing times, doses are not
autocredited. Therefore this information does not display on the Billing
Inquiry.

Testing Notes

1) Select a patient with an ADMIN Billing Location.

2) Enter an IV by DUR Order to dispense doses.

3) Review the Dispensed Amount Inquiry to confirm doses have dispensed.

4) Use the Edit IV Rate routine and change the SIG.

5) Review the Dispensed Amount Inquiry to confirm times have been
updated.

6) Review the Billing Inquiry and confirm that there is no credit
displaying for
the above transactions since the patient is in an Admin Billing
Location.

Posting for a colleague:

We have always created a new account number for different patient type
(Status) visits that occur for a patient on the same day. In other
words if
a patient had an initial visit as an SDC patient and then later came in
for a
Lab test, that patient was given 2 account numbers.

This creates a smooth work flow for all our applications except for
Billing.
Medicare requires one outpatient bill per day. When we have a patient
who
has had multiple visits per day our billers have to merge these accounts
on
to one bill.

How do other hospitals handle multiple visits on the same day? If one
visit

Some of you old folks (me included) will remember the PC-AT that IBM
released in the 80s. What an improvement it was! Anyway, we're
running a poll on what Meditech should call their latest development at
http://focusblog.iatric.com/#poll . Now can anyone guess which choice
I selected?

The issue that has to be addressed with that approach is birth time is
not stored in a permanent location in Meditech - it would have to be
done through a query and pulled into the calculation from there. What I
shared works for us because we don't receive transfers from other
facilities into our nursery. The few re-admits I've seen here are
admitted to a Med/Surg floor - we don't have a NICU so critical babies
are transferred out.
I would love to see Meditech add a birth time data field to simplify the
calculation.

We cannot assume adm d/t is birth d/t because of the transfers into the
nurseries from other facilities. Could these calculations be formulated
to use the birth date/time? Thx,

Here it is (be aware the wordwrap in Outlook has messed with some of
it);

Let me know if this works also with C/S - for future reference.

Hello all,

We are a implementing LAB in Meditech 6.0; however since LAB still based
upon C/S we wonder if someone could help us with a rule that calculates
the age of a (neonatal) patient in hours.

Hi everyone,

If someone would have an Excel (or any format I guess) version of the
Meditech Magic keyboard template that they would not mind sending, it
would be very greatly appreciated. I used to have one, but in so many
moves, it's gotten lost among the clouds.

TIA to all.

In my previous life, I was able to, and did, change the colors so there
was no question whether I was in TEST or LIVE. When I came here, the
only option was NUI (except for some scripting). It was a difficult
transition at first, and there are times when a numeric menu would be
helpful, but I've adapted. Users are not given an option, and the
default for all users is the Windows Default.

Some of our users opted not to upgrade for now with the caveat that they

get to choose their colors.

Help,
we are converting to the Meditech OPS version in Magic of 4.17, BUT we
have huge issues with the color of 4.17. Yes, I could change my color
scheme on my desktop to pick a more favorable color, BUT our end users
are locked down and do not have the ability/permission to change a color
scheme.
I would guess that some of you folks have dealt with this issue
already. If so, how? What setting would be good for that version of
Meditech and not adversely affect other applications?
